Hello,

I am an RPN here in Ontario. I am currently working in a doctor's office. I didn't have clinical experience because I am an IEN so I started as a receptionist in the clinic. I've been there for 6 months and last January, I am officially hired as a nurse. I'm just wondering if there is an RPN paid $13/hr with no benefits whatsoever. My boss said it's because I don't have clinical experience that's why I am paid like that and she won't give me a raise unless I will work less hours. Please help me... thanks!

Yes you can. She is grossly under paying you, and she knows it. Start looking for another position.

Oh, yes you can. My employer pays for my workshops and pays me while I'm at them.

Only you can change your situation

What you are doing is allowing someone to walk all over you in a belief that a member of your ethnic/cultural group would never take advantage of a fellow countryman.

Until you are willing to make changes to better your situation you are playing the victim.

A workshop in no way obligates you to stay at your job. Don't let them tell you that.

Hello everyone! Thank you so much for replying to this thread!

I already told my boss that I will be leaving in two weeks. I haven't found another job yet even though I started since February. I know it takes time but I believe walking away would be my best option. I think I've had enough to the point that I don't mind if I get fired or something. Not the ideal situation but I don't think I can come to work for another day. For the past month I've been having bad dreams about my job and I don't want to sleep anymore because it will be the next day in few hours and I have to drag myself to work. I feel like I gave up too easily but if I carry on, I might leave nursing for good. She has no plans in increasing my salary and my hours are a bit unstable so I think those are enough reasons to let go. anyway, I appreciate your comments! you helped me a lot to decide regarding my situation.

Good for you! Where are you exactly? What steps are you taking to find work? Maybe we can help.

Hi loriangel14, thank you:) I live outside GTA. But I'm willing to relocate if needed. I have always been afraid to leave this work despite how miserable my situation is because I can't find a new job. I have been applying to online postings first because I'm not sure how else I can apply. I tried to apply once personally and I was turned down right away. I'm afraid I won't be able to find work soon.

Hi loriangel14, I'm not sure how many times I have already posted, but I will reply to you once I reached the 15th post. your suggestions will absolutely helpful. thanks!

Hi loriangel14, im not sure what was your last message about. i live in guelph, and if you have any tips regarding job search/openings, that will be extremely helpful.thanks!:))
