RPN jobs in GTA

Dear all, I just took my CPNRE in Sept. and looking forward to hearing a positive outcome. I've almost completed my Perioperative Nursing Certificate and will be doing my clinical placement in Winter semester at one of the local hospitals. Ive also completed my Health Assessment and Medication Administration Certificates. Currently taking some mental health classes as well. I'm trying to find my way around here in Toronto in terms of getting a job as an RPN. I'm new in Canada (USA RN) and was wondering about the rpn opportunities in the GTA area. I know it's going to be not easy to find an ideal job but will I be able to get a job within a month or two? I need a job ASAP. Any suggestions or comments are highly appreciated. Thanks,

It really depends. Since you already have RN experience, I would make sure to highlight this in your cover letters. The GTA is saturated with applicants, so it may be 3-4 months before you land a job. On average, new grads there take 6 months to land their first position. Be open to working outside the OR. If you are only set on OR nursing, landing that first job may take a while.

Why are you working as an RPN if you worked as an RN in the States? Your experience there should have been included in your evaluation of credentials.

It is hard to predict how long it will take to find a job.What are you looking for? Hospital, LTC, community? Are you open to relocation? RVH in Barrie just opened up a huge new addition.

Ontario does not accept a 2 yr RN to practice nursing. If you look at the site, they only accept the 4 year BSN. I have a friend who went to Quebec (many years ago) and her 2 yr RN was accepted.

2 year RNs who graduated before the degree became mandatory are grandfathered in as RNs. I've worked with several American nurses were only diploma holders but had numerous years experience. Just as Canadian diploma RNs were grandfathered and continue to work.

The OP would not be grandfathered in since this was from 2012.

In Alberta if you graduated from a diploma programme prior to 2009 (when the BScN became the entry to practice) you are grandfathered.

The OP never came back after these posts. If you read all of her posts on the subject, she was in the US as an international student, wasn't able to stay and hopped up to Canada. For all we know she's moved on to yet another country.

Hi all

I recently passed my CPNRE and I have BScN degree from outside of Canada. I have two and a half years of experience as an RN in a hospital's medical unit (outside Canada). I am currently residing in Toronto. Can someone please guide me which hospitals hire RPNs? I know North York general hospital takes RPNs and Sunny Brook and Mount Sinai don't.

Sunnybrook does hire RPNs. Sick Kids doesn't.
