RPN George Brown Fall 2016

Published

Hi everyone! I just found out yesterday that I got accepted to the RPN program at George Brown for this fall. I was wondering if there is anyone else out there who got accepted? :) I'm really nervous!

Hi Lisa Stone, congratulations! I too got accepted into the practical nursing program at George Brown College! After careful thought and deliberation I accepted my offer yesterday and could not be more confident about my choice. The campus is absolutely beautiful and the lab looks amazing! Have you been on a campus tour? If not, I strongly suggest it. I can not wait for September to come!

Hi Amy :)

I haven't been on a campus tour yet but I've seen photos and it looks beautiful. I'm really excited but also nervous!

Hey congratulations! If you don't mind asking, what was your average?

Hey hjk1234, my average for my February 2nd acceptance was 89%. My mark break down is , 12C Chemistry 94, 12C English 98, 11C Biology 95 and 11 mixed Math 70.

Hey Lisa Stone ! Have you done you CPR/ HCP certification yet? If you have, where did you go? Or if you haven't yet, where are you planning to go?

Way to go guys. If I can offer some advice. I graduated from GBC's RPN program about 3 years ago. It's without a doubt a difficult program. I'm going back to GBC in September for the RN bridge for more torture. Anyway, get yourself a giant calendar and mark every single assignment, test and important date. Also form a study group ASAP. And say good-bye to your social life for two years lol.

Thank you :) My marks were

11 C Biology: 76%

12 C Chemistry: 83%

11 C Math: 97%

12 C Math: 96%

12 C English: 90%

I haven't done it yet. You're supposed to wait until after June first, because one of them needs to be renewed after a year, and it can't expire before you're done the program. I think I'm going to go to the St John Ambulance (365 Bloor St E)

Good point! And thank you NewRPN 85 for your advice. The program will be challenging but worth it in the end! Do you have any advice for clinicals? Any thing you would tell yourself now in retrospect?

Make sure you can take a manual blood pressure and make sure you can do it well. It's a simple skill, but one that students tend to lose quickly because of all the automatic BP machines in hospitals. Also buy yourself a nursing care plan book. Believe me you're going to be doing a lot of them and there aren't as many as there should be in the library. Finally be assertive with your clinical leader. No need to be rude, but they will push you a bit to see if you can take being picked on and what you'll do. Unfortunately nurses love to eat our young and there will be people that will bully you.

One thing they won't mention to you first semester is in your final semester you have to write an exit test. Basically it's a practice for your provincial licensing exam that you need to pass to graduate. So keep every single handout and scrape of paper they give you. Nothing to worry about in the beginning but something to keep in the back of your mind.

Thank you for taking the time to type that all out :) How was the anatomy class? Do you have any advice regarding that course? I'm a little nervous for it since it's the class most people fail, or do poorly in.
