RPN where to apply

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hello Fellow students,

I am currently in Pre-health looking to start the RPN program and then once done take the bridging program. I am confused as where to apply however.

I applied for Mohawk for Sept and January intakes - My first choice

now I cannot decide if I should apply for GBC, Cenntenial, Georgian or Sheridan or Humber.

My issues are this:

I live in Brampton but heard bad thin gs about Sheridan for nursing. I also was not impressed during the open house.

Centennial is far for me..like over an hours drive with traffic

Georgian - I an go to Orangeville campus no problem but I am not sure why they have a 5 term program so I would have to wait a whole year before applying to the bridging program and a friend said she got in there but it was cancelled because there was not enough students to start the program.

GBC is downtown so I am worried about the commute - Anyone do this comment currently?

Humber only takes September intake but I won't know if I am in to Mohawk for the fall before tuition has to be paid so I guess humber is out too,.

I also applied for Conestoga in January as that is where I am in Pre-health but I do not like the way they set up the courses, its 1-2-1 schedule so we are done Dec 2021. I get into Mohawk I am done Dec 2020 or April 2021. The latest I want to compete the program is April 2021 so I can do apply to BscN for Sept 2021

I am so confused and don't know where to apply. I am waiting fore second round HOAE testing to find out if I can get into Mohawk.

Mohawk students - what do you think of the program

The guy told me that as long as you maintain average over 75% you get into nursing. Right now my average is 80 with pre-health and my psw I finished with a 97.5 average (Private College though so GBC is the only one I can take the bridge at). Since the bridge term is basically a repeat of pre-health's first term except for I think 2 of the classes it should be easy to have a 75 I assume

Oh good. That top 15 thing always seemed a bit unfair to me. The psw to rpn bridge isn't difficult. I did prehealth and back then I think they only took the top ten of which I was unfortunately not in that group. The bridge should be a breeze for you.

thanks, yes I think so too but man what a waste of a semester! However it is a good way in and hey, I will be really good at the basics right! lol

How did you like the RPN program at GBC?

How did you like the RPN program at GBC?

I didn't. At all. I found it disorganized and I thought the instructors were rude, vindictive and unfair. They didn't seem to care at all about our success. I know most nursing students gripe but this was pretty bad. I had a buddy who worked in the student association,he told me they would get 200-250 complaints about various GBC programs each year, he said half would come from the rpn program.

Of course this is second hand info and there were probably students who didn't mind the program or even liked it, but that wasn't my experience or anyone I was buddies with. When I told a friend I was going back to GBC to bridge She asked me if I had been sniffing glue.

oh my, how are you finding it now?

The bridge was a bit better. More organized, less ridiculous. But there were still some instructors who should not be teaching. But what can you do. They treated us with more respect and dignity. I'm not sure if it's because we were already RPN's or if the people that run the program are better. I regret going through GBC to become an RPN but I don't regret going back to do the bridging there.

do you know what this guy was talking about in regards to the interview questions? he told me there are 2 questions and 1 one written question and if you fail this interview you don't get it. I feel he tried scaring me like it was really hard to pass this thing to get into the run program. I have an overall average of 80 in prehealth so I am hoping to maintain that coming out of exams, hopefully I get in somewhere with these grades as a mature student. This interview though, should I be worried about?

I have some friends who have recently done the interview, and as long as my grades hold up this semester I also have an 80 in prehealth I should hear back for the interview. Its nothing to be scared of, they are situational based questions designed to get a feel of what kind of person you are and how you respond to a situation. However, even if you have really high marks if you fail the video interview you do not get admission at GBC. If you are nervous you should go over the STAR method and really just practise normal interview situational based questions.

oh good suggestions thank you. You are hoping for September intake?

No problem! Yes, I'm hoping for September intake. I'm not done my Pre Health Program but am planning to use my first semester grades to gain admission because I'm not done my certificate until the end of August. I applied to George Brown, Seneca, Centennial, Humber and Sheridan.

WOW, me too! I finish August 16 at Conestoga. I missed the Georgetown intake for RPN in September as it was full. I applied to Mohawk. for Sept, and then in January, George Brown, Mohawk and Conestoga. I am 15 minutes from Sheridan but I was not impressed with them at all and have not heard any good things so I wont be applying there.

Humber I felt is too young a student body for someone like me that is way older

I keep hearing Sheridan's program isn't good but nothing more LOL. It's my last choice to be honest I live downtown Toronto and don't really wanna go to Brampton everyday to be honest but back ups you know.
