Hello!
I live in Texas, although not in the Austin/Round Rock area. I relocated here from California about a year and a half ago.
Perhaps you may wish to visit the Texas Nurses Forum and create a thread over there, as you might receive more responses. Good luck!

CRNI: I live in the Round Rock Area. If you are considering moving to Austin, I do recommend the Round Rock, Georgetown area and stay in the burbs. The hospital at Round Rock currently is St. David's Round Rock Medical Center as well as Georgetown Hospital-St.Davids in Gtown. St. Davids is HCA run hospitals. Both have nice equipment and are about 150 bed hospitals. Most everything you need is in Round Rock. Retail out the wazoo, so you shouldn't have to go into traffic grid Austin too much! There are Awesomes lakes in the area and plenty of recreation in the Austin area. Keep in mind Seton Hospitals is building a new hospital in Round Rock, should be open next year. Also, Scott and White has built a new hospital in Round Rock which will open in June I believe. Lots of options. Good luck on your move! Central Texas is really a nice place to live!

Hello CRNI. I currently work in the ER at St. David's/Georgetown and love it. I grew up in this area and like ER dude said the Round Rock and Georgetown area is nice. Hot summers and mild climate the rest of the year. Georgetown has a large Sun City community (55+ retirement community) and Round Rock has an abundance of very nice family communities. There are only 3 true hospital employers in the area HCA (St. David's), Seton and Scott & White but between them there will be about 6 hospitals within easy driving distance to Round Rock by the end of 2008 if you include driving into North Austin. Be careful, though, all the highways leading in and out of Austin experience ridiculous grid lock traffic at certain times of the day.
