Romanian graduate nurse taking Nclex-Rn

Published

Hi everyone:)

I graduated from nursing school in Romania, and then I moved in the U.S; after a long process of having my degree evaluated I'm finally able to take the Nclex-Rn. I took it twice so far and unfortunetly failed both times. As you probably know the nursing program is totally different from Romania, and as hard as I am trying to study on my own is like starting all over again. My weak section is pharmacology, so I was wondering if anyone out there can help me with this...any advise on how to memorize the medication and their side effects?(this is a very important section on passing the Nclex-Rn). Because, it took so long to get my degree evaluated my school is expiring in Aug, this summer and if I don't pass the Nclex, I'll have to go back to school:(( Thank you all!!

Oh sorry to hear that. I passed my boards years ago and I work as Endo RN in NY, I passed the exam after my second time you can make it is not hard to pass it. I wanted to go back for NP but I didn't know where to start and where to apply. After you answered me I called some schools that they have online classes they wanted me to get my transcripts sent first they didn't mentioned no acceptance.

Good luck with your coming board exam.

It should be easier if you already work as an RN, but to go for NP I believe you have to work for your BSN and Master. I've had a lot of problems trying to get my transcript from my school sent to CGFNS, maybe the school you went to in Ro is more helpful! What I meant on my previous messages about school not accepting my credits was if I wanted to start all over here registering for a nursing program, they wouldn't take any of my credits. Again, if you already has your associate, I am sure it will be easier to get some credits approved, I hope!!

Oh I see thank you and good luck to you zazutza..

Hi,

I am a Romanian graduate nurse too (1988, Bacau), and I just recently was able to sit and pass the NCLEX. I moved to the States in 1998, I tried to have my credentials evaluated by CGFNS (CGFNS International | Global Credibility | Credentials evaluation and professional development services that provide strategic value and direction to health care professionals worldwide.), but I was lacking credits to qualify to sit for NCLEX (I never got a clear answer as of what I was lacking..). I have learned that different states have different requirements, so I've sent an application for credentials evaluation to New York State Board of Nursing, and I was approved to sit for the exam. I passed it on my first try, and now I am enrolled in a RN to BSN/MSN bridge, soon to graduate. Don't give up, you know more than you think you do, just need to brush up and organize your thoughts. Try NCLEX for Dummies (can be purchased on Amazon.com), it really helped me to see the rationals behind the right answer, the though process, great material!

Good Luck!

Hi Cristina Nicora,

I'm Romanian graduates and I'm already working as an RN and now I'm planning to continue my education like you I was wondering how many of your credits did the school here accepted? Is it better to to apply for a bridge program or get my BSN first?

Thank you

I had my nursing evaluation through CGFNS and when I received a copy of my evaluation it was equivalent to an Associate degree here. Everything you need to know is on their website, they do requir documentation to be sent from your school in Romania. Unfortunately nursing school in Romania expires after 3 yrs of not practicing over there. In order for you to renew your licence, you will have to go back and practice for 6mo I believe, so if it has been a while since you graduated, you might not be able to get your licence evaluated, you need a valid licence for CGFNS to start processing your evaluation. I hope this helps, if you have any questions feel free to ask!

Hi Zazuta!

I am a nursing student, enrolled in the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Romania. I was reading your comment about your credits not being accepted in the US. Do you know if it would be the same for me or if it makes any difference if you graduate from college(4 year degree) or from the scoala postliceala? Thank you in advance!

Hello ?

Romanian graduated nurse here, university of medicine ( 4 years degree ). Currently working in London for NHS ( 2 years experience only ). I haven`t practiced nursing back home.

I am planning to study for my NCLEX exam.. Fingers crossed for me haha.

And... this leads me to the next questions; did someone/anyone evaluate or start processing evaluation for a 4y nursing degree by CGFNS ? If I`m working for National Health Services do I still have to pass and English language exam - TOELF ?

Thank you ?

Hi! I've just finished the long process of becoming a nurse in the US. I want to help another Romanian nurse with all the information on being a nurse here. Two days ago I took and passed the last step of this long process the NCLEX. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Hi Doina! I'd like to know what kind of course you've completed in Romania (the 4 year university course or the 3 year one) before becoming a nurse in the States.

Hi, Diana! I've graduated from the old school called Liceul Sanitar and also Scoala Postliceala Sanitara (3 years). Both schools gave me the credits to become a nurse here. The first time I thought that they would not recognize any credits from my schools because my High School was shouted off many years ago. But, with persuasion and patient, I've got the recognition of my degree.

Hi Doina,

My name is Alexandra. I graduated from Centrul de Studii European Fălticeni in 2014 with three year degree. I have been working as a nurse in UK since then. My husband is a doctor and we have decided to relocate to US. I applied for NCLEX a year ago but the application could not proceed as my school denies receiving any documents from CFGNS. After a year of struggle I feel exhausted and was wondering if it is worth applying again as the my Romanian nursing school appears inept at dealing with a simple email. Did you experience similar problem with setting your paperwork stamped and verified from your nursing school in Romania?

Thank you in advance

Hi, Alexandra! I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know if the CGFNS changed the rules but they sent the paper work to me first ( the one with the credentials). So, I took the papers and I went  to Romania at archives because my schools were shutdown long time ago(postliceala sanitara+ liceu sanitar). I asked them to give me a copy of both my diplomas (high school +college), I had them translated+apostille. Turn on that the apostille didn't need it but  didn't hurt it either. In Romania I had some problems with credentials paper work because they were in English and school said went it Romanian. So, I have tranlated them  in Romanian at first  filled up the paper by the school then I have them translated back in English.  After that , I paid a fee to the school and they mailed to CGFNS the envelope.  Then I waited almost one year to get the credentials verified.  They asked then for a signature specimen from the Dean of the school and the school emailed them with the actual manger of the archive and so on. Was a long journey but I have the job done. Don't get discouraged applied again and my advice is to solve the problems personally if is possible.

Hi Doina! I wanted to ask if they evaluated your Romanian credentials as RN or LPN?
