Roll Call for Tulane/OLOLC Fall 06

Published

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:balloons:

Okay everyone. Who here is in the program for the fall?? Post here!!!! I am so excited right now, I don't know what to do with myself. :lol2: :lol2:

Congrats guys!

I just finished OLOL's accelerated program :mortarboard: Despite Hurricane Katrina, relocating to B.R., moving 2x to live w/ friends, AND the program really lasting only 8 mos due to the chaos, it is doable. I would definitely say STAY FOCUSED!!

Is this only a 2 year program, if so, is it for BSN? I'll actually be attending LSU and its a 3 year program.

No, it's not a BSN - it's an ADN program.

hi everyone, I just got accepted. anybody know what do we need before the orientation? or where? thanks

How do you like your job now?

Hi Neo777win!!!

Just wanted to say congrats!!! Make sure you are CPR certified. If you aren't, call **** and she will give you a womans number at Tulane Hospital. I am going for certification on the 11th from 7am to 11am. Also make sure your immunizations are up to date and that all your transcripts from your prereq's. PM me if you have any more questions.

Our class was different because we had to relocate to Baton Rouge and the only available clinical time was on the weekends.

So for us it was....

Lecture was Wed/Thurs/Fri 9am-4pm (sometimes getting out at 3-3:30)

Sat and Sun Clinicals 6am-3:30/4:00

Mon and Tues -off

Test are WEEKLY often the day after your 2 day/weekend break. So yes, you have a "weekend" but you better spend it studying/reading if you want to keep up and pass. As far as weekend activities, it all depends on the person, some went out and relaxed while others stayed home to study.

Plan on putting your life on HOLD for the next 10months, but it will fly bye believe me. :)

Hi Tulane students, couple of questions:

I just found out about this program reading these threads. Question: does the School pay your tuition and how much is the stipend? and: How much does a new nurse make at Tulane?

Thanks

Actually it's OLOL students not Tulane, I say this because many people think it's a Tulane program which it is not. Tulane Hospital NOT Tulane University is associated with the program providing most, not all, of the clinical setting. Not sure how it is now but last year was a unique year for the program in that we had to deal with relocating after Katrina. Initially we were told we would be provided a grant to help cover tuition ranging from $2,000-$6,000 per semester with a stipend of $500 (before taxes) per semester with tuition roughly $5,000 per tuition plus books. What the grant did not cover the student was responsible.

Because of the storm our tuition was paid by the state and not sure how that matter will be dealt with for the '06-'07 class.

You must sign the contract to work for Tulane after graduation with at a rate of $20.50 base + shift diff and will start out on a Med-Surg floor with the option to rotate to another floor after 6months -1yr.

It's an excellent but VERY fast pace program and highly recommend it.

Best of luck :)

Hi!!

To answer your question, this year OLOLC/Tulane Hosp. students get 100% tuition pd. We also get 600 dollars a month before taxes. (It will be around 500$ after taxes!!) This will *help* with childcare for my daughter. And yes we are to work for Tulane for 2 years after. I am hoping to work Med/Surg (I don't think that is an option) But would like to transfer out into ICU eventually. I am super excited about starting next week and am preparing mentally for a tough year. Good Luck!!!!

Thanks so much for the information, I spoke to **** today and she said that the monies given to students for this Fall will be $4,618.00, just barely enough to cover tuition. I have a big decision to make; I believe I will be accepted to Charity for Spring 2007, but now that I found out about this program, I am wondering whether to choose the OLOL path. Bird in the hand or what... the problem is that my overall GPA was not great, I had a few problems with partying when I started college  so my overall is 2.7. My GPA for the last 70 hrs of school is a 3.7 including the prereqs. Is this good enough to get into this program? Also I live in the Houma area, I see from some of the blogs that Tulane Hospital seems to frown on commuting. Another question:deadhorse if you are accepted to the program but flunk the interview are you out?

Thanks everyone.. what a great site
