Stop by, introduce yourself, say a little about yourself. :)
My name is David. I have been an LVN for a year and a half. Working in acute care. Just got accepted into an RN program starting in January. I'm really excited, but worried about working and going to school at the same time.
Anyone else working while going to school? I figure if I can work 2 shifts (12 hours a piece) I will be OK with my bills.
hey david, I'm just starting LPN school in feb and also starting our local college in jan doing three RN pre reqs! knocking on 50 years old so I cant waste any time! we can do anything we have to do! how bad do you want this, you'll do fine. Not saying it'll be easy but there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
Hi! I'm Julie, I just graduated the LPN program waiting on my att and starting LPN to RN program in January. I currently work in the NICU as a patient care tech, not sure if I will take an LPN position since our hospital does not hire LPN's except for in clinics-which would be great if the clinics were on the weekend! I plan on working throughout school as I did last year. I also plan on working in the NICU when I graduate the RN program. I worked as a dental assistant before deciding that nursing was my true calling. I took a jod at a local hospital in the Ortho dept and quickly decided I wanted to pursue nursing. I have been working hard to get it done and hope this next year will go by as quickly as the last!! Good luck to all and I hope to be able to stress wnd destress with you!!
Hi David.
I just graduated from an RN program in May but previously, I had worked as an LPN for 4 years. One of those years I spent in an LTC facility and the rest in pediatric home care. While I was in nursing school, I tried to maintain full time hours but a month into the program, I had to cut those hours down to 16 hours a week. I worked Friday and Saturday night and when I was on a school break, I would pick up additional hours. Fortunately, in home care (especially on the night shift), you usually have a lot of "down time" so I was able to study a lot during those hours. I think that you will be fine working the two days. Good luck!
Hey guys, haven't been here for a while but I'm an LVN for three years and will be starting 4th semester of the RN program in Feb. I'm excited, scared and can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel of this long road. I will be 51 when I graduate June 2009, yah! I have a 24 year old daughter who is also a new RN. So if this menopause queen can do it, we all can. I didn't say it was easy, but you have to just keep going. I am down to one shift a week but may have to quit for 4th semester. Anyone else work through 4th semester?? God bless all of you. You can do it.

hi dave,
if i can do it, anyone can do it! i've got one semester left for my rn (may 16, 2009..hooray!) and have worked full time as an lpn the entire time i've been in school. i'm also a 40 year old single mom of four.....
you'll be fine. it's amazing what you can do when you have too!!
I have the same question. For myself, I decided to rent a room from a stranger so I can lower my bills every month making it possible for me to work only 20 hours a week. Thank goodness my kids are now all grown. I told them I would be in hibernation for the next two years. What ever I lack in finances, student loans will have to cover. I wonder if 20 hours a week is more then I should take on in order to get good enough grades to bridge into an RN program.
