Next on the list is Leadership in Nursing, who's in?
Another question. The book uses the term "person shifts" in the first box but doesn't really explain what it is, is a person shift the amt of hrs the staff is productive in a shift, or is it the amout of persons needed per shift? The example of 24.6 is WAY to many people needed per shift in a 50 patient unit unless its an ICU. ARRGGHHH!!!!! I wish there were some actual INSTRUCTION in this class! I really want to understand this stuff, I feel like I'm paying good money to self-learn!

I can't agree with you more.
Thanks to all the students here who tried to make sense of this horrible assignment. I did leave a suggestion on the discussion boards that the powers that be may want to reevaluate this assignment for future students and how frustrating it was because the concepts were new and the textbook does not explain it well at all. I also reminded them this was an issue last fall when students took this class.
Has anyone started the paper for Week 5? I have read the critical thinking exercise over and over and cannot understand the last part from where it says, "Next, Nurse Parra .... to the group was planning a move in 1 month and was just notified that TJC would be visiting in 3 months." This makes no sense to me. I am not putting together that being any kind of reason why the home health care rep would not be returning calls/meetings. The group was planning a move...Who is moving what??? I'm not looking for any answer but am I missing something?

I interpret it as the home health care group is moving in 1 month and was just notified of a TJC visit in 3 months. They probably have a lot going on that doesn't include anyone else...
I ended up getting 25 as well. I still feel that I had zero instruction or guidence, and there are many things that I would have understood better if that wasn't the case. @MSTRN, thanks for responding yesterday... nice to know others feel the same way.
I agree with you. It is quite aggravating. The anxiety involved in completing these assignments is over the top, 25/25 is the least they can do considering they provide know instruction/ teaching.

1 FTE works 40h/week. If one person works 32h/week, that's 0.8 FTE, 24h/week is 0.6 FTE, etc. So if you have 40 FTEs for a 24h period, you could have 40 people only if they are all 1.0 FTE working 40h/week technically. If some work 32h/week or 24h/week which is not unusual in real nursing world, you would have more than 40 people. I hope this helps.
