I just uploaded my paper, right or wrong. I cannot believe that this assignment is only worth 25 points, it seemed like much more work than that.

Once you accept the fact that they are totally setting you up for failure, the assignment becomes much easier.

May someone post the formulas we need for this weeks assignment. I have the third edition if the book and I'm not sure if this are the formulas we need. As it does not seem to correlate with the description in the assignment. Thank you

Okay, is anyone else noticing a major flaw in Table 28.1 in the Huber book? It is a sample staffing pattern for a 24 hr period that shows a staff type of 'fixed 8-hr day staff' (column 1), it then shows 2 columns for 7am- 7pm, and 7pm - 7am shifts (next 2 columns), which are 12 hrs shifts. Shouldnt there be 3 columns representing 8hr shifts instead of 2 columns representing 12hr shifts? I've shown this to a few people in the business, and they all agree there is a problem here. Anyone else having a problem figuring this out?

I see what you are saying. But this doesn't affect us doing our assignment.
I believe what Table 8.1 represents is 8 hour "fixed staffing" that involves a nurse manager, a nurse educator, and lactation specialist. Along with a "variable staff" that works 12 hour shifts.
Because the 8 hour "fixed staff" is not on any other shift, they did not extend out the 8 hour shifts for the total 12 hours.
@ emergencyken, Yes, but the varible calc uses 8 hr shifts to determine FTE... @ MSTRN, problem 3 is based on 8 hr shifts for example, so it does affect the assignment.
Regardless, the most interesting thing on that page is the fact that they have 43.17 FTEs to take care of a 40 bed nursing floor, whereas in the assignment you have 30 FTEs to take care of a 50 bed nursing floor.
My TA says in the announcement that we can do either 12h or 8h. Plus, I think the table just shows an example of the skill mix, and it has nothing to do with Box 28.1. Those numbers are irrelevant. You can calculate number of persons based on FTEs using Box 28.1, not Table 28.1.
I'm quite glad it's only worth 25 points. It's the only way I will still be able to keep an A in this class.
Okay, not looking for answers here, just guidance. Are FTEs considered people if they are 8 hr emplyees? In other words, IF I have 40 FTEs for a 24hr period, does that mean I have 40 people? The book is so unclear on this!
