Roll Call Hillsborough community college Spring 2012 Nursing

Umm I personally haven't gotten a case or clip or chain for it because I Didn't know how they wanted us to wear it. My first class is tomorrow Night so I was going to ask the teacher then but I did get the ID. And it's hard not to leave something till the last minute with all we have to do!

If I am not mistaken, we do not have to wear our full scrub gear untill the first day of labs is that correct ? I wonder when out labs are going to be considering that they listed two separate days as our clinical days.

Hey! Yes, we do have to wear our full scrub get out the first day of clinicals, and of course, every day there after (but not lecture days).

Check your blackboard (MyHCC) if you haven't yet. Your teacher might have your class listed. If it is, go to "Tools" then "Messages" and read any emails, she might also have listed some links for you to visit that give you clincial info, and other info. My teacher (Ms. Coleman) did, and there is a TON of info available, everything from clinical location and day for different groups, to powerpoints on vital signs and infection control, to care plans.

As for shoes, I got white leather clogs. All shoes have to be white leather, regardless of style. I asked if they were allowed, and they are, thank goodness. These things are like heaven on my feet. Of course, they had better be, they were $120!!!!!! (Luckily I received them as gift for Xmas, otherwise they would have been on the "to get when refund comes in" list.) They are the Timberland Pro Renova something something something. As Scrubs N Stuff, if you get a chance to try them on, do so. Amazingness.

As for Financial aid, yep, maximum time crap got me too, that's because of a new law that took effect after Fall semester, withdrawals, transfer, and even courses you didn't use Fin Aid for, all count as attempted credits towards the 150% thing. Stupid. Luckily it was an easy fix. Filled out the appeal paper last Monday, counselor took care of it then and there, pell grant approved, still waiting to see my loans, but they will be approved too...eventually.

Oh by the way, regarding the scrub comment, I misread yours, thinking you were asking if we had to wear it our first day of clinicals. But in either case, my comment still applies, lecture days are our opportunity for freedom of expression :-P I know we don't have to wear scrubs at all, but I plan on fulfilling my want of all those cute scrub tops I saw at the store by buying them for lecture days!

Has anyone ordered their badges yet? I'm a little nervous I am ordering them tomorrow and hope they don't take too long. I found the paperwork among my orientation packet and totally realized that it was needed lol

Turn around time is 5 days for the badges, unfortunately.

Yep, you might be able to beg them for a faster turn around time though, tell em it is an emergency, can't hurt right? . I'm going to bring my potter/perry book, and my calc book, and that's it. My teacher said that we are going to be focusing on vital signs/infection/hygiene...and all those are covered in the p/p. They can't really expect us to lug around all those books every day...at least....I hope they don't expect us to! :-)

Argghhh... FINALLY was able to bookcharge today after 12. Went to get package at DM campus...they are all out, won't have any until next week. Call around...find out that Southshore has 2 packages left. Drive all the way from the DM campus to the Southshore campus. Get the package, go to check out, not enough Financial aid on my account to buy it. Total came to 558.60. (Without the coupon, which I HAD, but my hubby accidentally throughout) Only have been approved for up to $500 bookcharging(even though I have an extra $900 on my account after classes were paid for) because I am not taking the full 12 credits, only the 10 nursing credits, because of the stupid max time thing/financial aid appeal in which they will only continue to pay for the classes need to finish my degree, AND the only classes I need are the 4 nursing processes/mental health nursing, AND somewhere, someone decided that even though this is a FULL-time commitment and program, it wouldn't count for FULL time credits. Stupid. So, with only $500 on my bookcharging account, no $ in my pocket until Thurs to pay the extra $58 or buy gas to replace the gas I spent driving all the way to freaking Southshore, I walked away empty handed, having wasted a 1/4 tank of gas and 2 hours of my time.

Who makes these decisions I ask yoo. Who decides..."Hey! Even though we have 60 students in the program on our campus, we are only going to order 40 packages, in case they buy them somewhere else. Even though they KNOW they won't have enough (what they told me in the store today) will have to order more. And even though they know they can return any unsold books to the manufacturer and get the full price for them back.

Who decides that a full-time program, in fact, a program that requires more of a time committment than someone who is taking 18 or 21 credits, is only going to be worth 10 credits, when it is well known by EVERYBODY, that in order to receive full Pell grant, a student must take 12 credits.

Who decides, that even though you have an extra $900 on your account after everything is paid for...you can only use $500 of that at the bookstore.

Hopefully, the older editions I have of the books will get me through until I get the refund, and hopefully the bookstore will have some more packages by then.

Sorry for the long rant. Just really, really frustrated.

RNnTraining-I don't know if it's too late, or even how I would get it to you, but I have an extra coupon. I have class tonight at 6, and I also live in the Brandon area. If you havn't gotten your books yet (since it's not thursday-or I think it's not thursday my brain is fried after only one night.) I am MORE than happy to give it to you. Then you'll only have to fork over $2.40.

How was everyones first night of class? We have 3 different instructors in the DM N/W class; but thankfully the 2 we met have senses of humor, although some things are still clear as mud.

a_pattee, do you have another extra coupon? By the way, I am in your class, TW, evening and I sit up front in the middle.

A_pattee... I will be here at 6pm! I'm got clinicals til 4:30, and then plan on doing skills lab stuff till 7:30pm. Look for the big girl with a long black ponytail in the full clincial uniform, wearing a black sweater. I will wait outside the lecture room about 5:45pm. Hopefully you see me.
