I havent found any threads on the Spring 2012 Nursing program, soo i figured id start one! I have already recieved an Email saying everything has been recieved, just waiting on my letter to see if I was accepted! Does anyone know when theyll be sent out? Has anyone recieved that email yet? :redpinkhe
ok i found some information on previous threads that i thought would maybe help us with our list of things to do.
1. there's a local fire department in tampa that offers courses for cpr for $30.00 for nursing students... if you are interested in this offer please let me know so that i can give you the information.
2. hcc also offers cpr classes... here is the link... as soon as you click on the link it gives you the dates and times that are offered.

3. most teachers suggest that you get the littmann stethoscope... amazon is amazing and they are much cheaper than going to a uniform store. (starting at 40.00)
4. i also retreived a link that i thought would be very beneficial for us when working or studying our calc book.. here is the link...
i've heard the d/h x v method- very easy
desired dosage divided by meds on hand x delivery i.e tablets or x or the solution- u have to see it in the book but very easy
5. nclex with rationales/ saunders nclex review guide. is the best book to get according to recent threads...
i hope this information helps you guys... i am looking to see if anyone would like to start a study group prior to class so that we can be ahead of the game... just let me know... as soon as i get my book i will be studying it lol...
also, i plan on doing my cpr prior to orientation (actually i'm scheduled for thursday). i've heard it may be a little easier to do it ahead so that you can focus on just the physical, shots (if needed), buying supplies etc.
i am not a watch person so i am going to check with my friend to see if i can just have a pocket watch... i can't stand a watch on my wrist... however, if it is required i won't complain!!!!
KikB,
I think you should wait for the CPR class because I was reading a previous thread and some people were saying that they did not count the classes taken elsewhere because they wanted them to complete the one at HCC. Check into that with your friend. I do not know anyone in the program so I just rely on the info you bring to the table. I also am not ordering my books until after orientation because I want to price them out because I am also paying out of pocket. As far as the study group, as soon as we go to orientation we can plan for it! Maybe we should get ID badges with our screen name so that we can recognize each other...just a thought.
One more thing, I am tall and was wondering if anyone recommends a (scrubs) brand, style, something that won't look crazy on me because I CANNOT stand high water pants! LOL! I saw in the previous thread that the students said KOI was the brand of choice. Does anyone know which is a reputable brand and material that wont fade and get destroyed for the 2 years that I plan on keeping them??!?!? LOL!
Simmola: When I got the book I looked just for the dosage calculation book an that one was the least expensive so I got it. I am planning to study after the fall because I'm taking American Literature now and I work full time with two kids and a husband, so three kids...lol. So at orientation we can exchange phone #'s and plan study groups like you said. About the uniforms I ussually buy mines online at UAuniforms.com, their brand is pretty cheap and they have last me for over 5 years (they don't look fade) not even the black ones. I planning to go to Uniform City as well, remember if you buy online, sometimes the size doesn't fit right. My tops are from S, M and L depending on the style. UA uniforms runs big. I always try to buy uniforms on sale. I have one pair of Khoi that I got as a present, they are very comfortable buy very expensive too. If I were you I will go to Uniform City and try on different styles and see what you like before buying online. Remember we are going to be from 8-10 hours running aroung in clinicals. Hope we get nice nurses to follow.......
You know what I was just thinking.. is there anyone on here that is going to be going to the southshore campus? I have an extra brand new clinical calc book that I would be willing to sell for 20 bucks if anyone wants it. I would be willing to meet you at the southshoure campus. I am there on monday wednesday and thursday. Or I may be at your orientation one of the days at the ruskin campus
KikB and Bital,
Thanks for responding! I read the other posts and they said the KOI brand was the preferred brand for the tallies. As far as studying, I work full-time so it would have to be in the evenings and the weekend. Bital LOL at the 3 children comment. I am going to wait until after orientation to take my CPR class because that time will be closer to my vacation time. If anyone wants to take it together, I am down! I heard orientation is long and boring, but hopefully I can find that clinical calculations book and start studying!
***If anyone wants to switch who got the evening program and would like the daytime, PLEASE PLEASE let me know!!!!

Hello everyone,
I ordered my calculations book from Amazon and it is on it's way to me Yayyyy!!!
Simmola: I will be getting the book after orientation because I want to price all of the books (since I am paying out of pocket for my classes and books)... I read previous threads and they are suggesting that you wait especially if you can get the Calculations book and NCLEX Books first....So I only ordered the NCLEX and the Calc book so far... However, there are so many more things thaI am buying before my books (stethoscope, pen light etc.)
