I havent found any threads on the Spring 2012 Nursing program, soo i figured id start one! I have already recieved an Email saying everything has been recieved, just waiting on my letter to see if I was accepted! Does anyone know when theyll be sent out? Has anyone recieved that email yet? :redpinkhe
Bital,
it depends on what the cutoff GPA was and how many individuals fall below that point. Each person gets ranked by GPA and acceptances/denials go out accordingly. If 200 people apply to the program and only 100 are accepted, then the rest of the individuals get placed down the rank accordingly. There is really no way to tell when alternatives will be notified because that is contingent upon the accepted people who decide to go to another school or something along those lines. Hope this helps! :)
Hello Everyone! Congrats to all the new folks that found out they were accepted. Congrats to those who got an alternate seat too, because I fully believe that you will get in. The ones who started this August had a LOT of alternates get chosen! I am happy that the cutoff was around a 3.4! Their cutoff was around a 3.6! It seems incredulous to those of us who have been waiting with bated breath that someone wouldn't do everything they needed to do, or would apply and then change their mind, but it DOES happen, and frequently too. Many people wait until the last minute to send in their acceptance letter, many people forget to send in the MO for the drug test. Many people don't pass the drug test or background check. Some people don't pass the physical or get the immunizations. Some people apply at USF and get into the program there instead. The list goes on. Do NOT give up, thinking that an alternate seat isn't likely to happen! For those who were denied. APPEAL APPEAL APPEAL. Drive em nuts. Be the most annoying that you can possibly be. If you are STILL denied, find out if there is a class you can take to higher your GPA. For instance if you scored a C in Math for Liberal Arts, take College Algebra and make sure you get an A. This will raise your GPA considerably as the program will use the College Algebra score before they use a math for liberal arts score. If you have tried all of the above and still cannot get in, try St.Pete College and Pasco-Hernando Community College. Both of them have the nursing program, and both of them use all of the same pre-reqs except for Sociology, they use Psychology instead, but they have different admittance processes, so you might do better there, plus if they have a cutoff, it might be lower than HCC's. If you are able to travel, or move, Valencia Community College in Orlando has a vastly different process for getting into their program. Valencia uses a waiting list, so no one is denied. They assign you points based on the classes you have taken and the scores you received, then rank the scores appropriately. For instance, Microbiology and Anatomy II plus the labs are not pre-reqs, but they do assign you higher points if you have taken them, and even higher depending on what grade you received. So you are already ahead of the game in the matter. They also have year round starting times, a class starts in each of the semesters.
If none of the above are options. Go to Erwin Technical Center in Tampa. They have an LPN program that is 14months long, the cost for the whole program is $5,162, so a little less than the HCC program, and they do Financial Aid. The night time program starts in January. Mon-Thurs 4:30 to 9:30pm. The daytime program starts next June. The informational meeting for the nightime program is today though, Sept. 14th, at 6:30. So if this something you even think you might do, make sure you call them or go! Once you have your LPN, you can transfer to HCC to get your RN!
Okay everyone. Change of subject! I need your help. Tomorrow there is elections for Student Senate. I and my husband are running! If you could please vote for us, I would be incredibly thankful! My name is Kimberly Green. My husband's name is Patrick Weston. To vote you visit the following link:
http://www.ballotbin.com/voterReg.php?b=25791 to register your email address and instructions will be sent to you from Ken Turley, the Senate Advisor
You must have your student id number handy
We need your votes!Thank you so much, we promise to represent you honestly and thoroughly in order to make the experience you receive at HCC the best that we can (within our power of course, pretty sure we can't do much about the Financial Aid office..sigh :-P)!
Also let me know if you do vote for me, so that I can send you a big ole thank you!
RNnTraining, I voted! :) Good luck with the election.
I sent back the paperwork to reserve my seat. Now I guess it's the background screening at the Ybor campus. Looks like that has to be done before orientation. I'm all giddy and nervous about it all!
Good luck to all the alternates. I'm sure that there will be a lot of applicants that turn a seat down for one reason or another.
Thank you very much for your vote! Awesome! I am sending my paperwork back tomorrow! I'm giddy and nervous too. I think the hardest decision so far is trying to decide which location to do clinicals at. If you are DM student, the choices are TGH, St.Joes, and UCH Carrollwood, and I see positives and negatives for both. Choices, choices!
