Roll call: Hillsborough Community College Spring 2011

U.S.A. Florida

I'm sure that it's probably waaaay to early for this thread, but I figured what the heck. I have all of my application documents just about ready for submission. Just need to add the self addressed postcard and my check.

My main concern though is my Eng I credit. I already have a BS in Biology. The school I attended rewarded me with the Eng I credit based solely on my ACT score. I was originally going to apply for the Spring 2009 class and as I was reviewing my transcripts, I notice that HCC had not given me credit for Eng I. I contacted the Dean of Student Services at the DM campus about it and he referred me to the Asst Dean. From there it pretty much got ugly. My transcript originally had it listed as CLEP credit but I didn't have any CLEP scores of course. I had transferred several times and was given credit every where I went with no questions asked. Not to mention that I actually already have a BS so you would think that I wouldn't have to worry about any of the general education courses. I told all of this to the Asst Dean and the reply that I got was that the original "college awarded the credit in an unorthodox manner and that it wasn't her fault that HCC had higher standards than the other institutions that I had transferred to." Her email pretty much told me to f off in a not so nice way. It didn't help that I gave her a piece of my mind after receiving such a response. *sigh*

I managed to get my original transcript updated so that it no longer says CLEP. It says "ACT score 28" instead. I had an updated copy sent to HCC along with a letter explaining the change, however HCC has yet to update anything. That was last August. Sooooooo, I will be trotting my happy butt in to see an advisor on Friday and praying like heck that they make the change and accept the credit. Because I already have my BS, I absolutely refuse to go back and take Eng I. I'm not happy at all with HCC's administrative staff, but because I can't find another true evening nursing program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg....I'm pretty much stuck with them. I can't afford to quit my job and go to school full time...if I could I would be doing USF's accelerated program instead. :)

Wish me luck!!!

Do you guys remember how to register for SNA? Esp if any of you are at South Shore!

Hello guys, i'm new on this site and I'm trying to apply for the Nursing Program's Fall 2011. I'm not sure how to complete the FDLE form. Did you guys just go to any Police Station in Tampa to get it done, or did you request it directly from Tallahassee's Florida Department of Law Enforcement to mail it to you?

Second question, where is exactly the drop mail box is located at HCC Dale Mabry to return the Nursing Application?

Please, what's the email address for M.J if i have questions related to my Nursing Application. Anyone, please help!

hello

go online and do the background check online it will give you simple steps to follow and then you pay by credit card at the end...it will send results to school

the drop box is inside the main building where you can drive under the covered area (brick). Sorry forget the name of the building. As you go in its on the right. Or you can ask the lady at the help desk when you get there. Its the same building you take care of paying your classes, drop/add and financial aid and academic counseling is in.

Hope this helps

good luck

Thanks Clkgirl! i hope i don't bother you too much, how would i know the school is going to receive it on time? I would rather receive it by mail and then mail it with my application at once. That sounds scary, especially the deadline is January 15. Also, i have reading from you guys, anything not sure just ask M.J or email M.J. Do you have her email by any chance?

Oh my goodness thank you, I was at a complete loss with that thing I was going to send out an email after the weekend to see if someone could clue me in on how to get the user name and password. You Rock!!!!

I have found ** email and she just told me i ONLY need to Fill that FDLE consent form and return it with the Application. That was a relieve!!! What are my chances to get accepted into the Nursing Program with a 3.57 GPA from the Prerequisites? Any suggestion for Campus between Dale Mabry, Southshore, Plant City? In another words, which one is better?

Hi! I'm new here. I ran into clkgrl in front of Mrs. **s office. She told me about this forum, and I'm sooo glad she did. I have a few quick (and probably stupid) questions. Number one is: Is it ok for my only documentation for the MMR vaccinations to be the paper signed by my doctor saying that I had them as a child, and the dates that I was given them? Or will I need to have the titer done to confirm this? Does anyone know?

My second question is: Other than the MMR, Tetorifice shot, TB test, Varicella titer/vaccination, and Hep. B series are there any other mandatory vaccinations we need?

I know I should have gotten all of this information at orientation. I promise I was there the whole time, trying my hardest to take everthing in, but I failed to get coffee beforehand, so my brain wasn't performing as needed.

per the terms of service of this site, please do not post names, initials, or contact information of professors or other school officials on the public board. it is better to communicate this type of information via the private message system. you will be able to send pm's once you have 15 posts.

as stated in the terms of service:

while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

  1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.
  2. while allnurses.com is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.
  3. please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

the best to all of you! thank you for your cooperation.

Clemso.E.Nurse, I'm sorry I didn't mean to ignore your questions. I think that your GPA as long as it's over 3.4 has a great chance of getting in, and even if it weren't I've heard of some people who have gotten in with a lower GPA. : ) I don't really know which campus is better. I've heard that all of the nursing teachers regardless of campus are great. I think the reason most people have a preference is because the amount of time they have to travel is alot less for one particular campus than for the others. I'm just guessing. I'm just starting out, so I don't know very much so far. Hope this helps. : )
