Roll call: Hillsborough Community College Spring 2011

Published

I'm sure that it's probably waaaay to early for this thread, but I figured what the heck. I have all of my application documents just about ready for submission. Just need to add the self addressed postcard and my check.

My main concern though is my Eng I credit. I already have a BS in Biology. The school I attended rewarded me with the Eng I credit based solely on my ACT score. I was originally going to apply for the Spring 2009 class and as I was reviewing my transcripts, I notice that HCC had not given me credit for Eng I. I contacted the Dean of Student Services at the DM campus about it and he referred me to the Asst Dean. From there it pretty much got ugly. My transcript originally had it listed as CLEP credit but I didn't have any CLEP scores of course. I had transferred several times and was given credit every where I went with no questions asked. Not to mention that I actually already have a BS so you would think that I wouldn't have to worry about any of the general education courses. I told all of this to the Asst Dean and the reply that I got was that the original "college awarded the credit in an unorthodox manner and that it wasn't her fault that HCC had higher standards than the other institutions that I had transferred to." Her email pretty much told me to f off in a not so nice way. It didn't help that I gave her a piece of my mind after receiving such a response. *sigh*

I managed to get my original transcript updated so that it no longer says CLEP. It says "ACT score 28" instead. I had an updated copy sent to HCC along with a letter explaining the change, however HCC has yet to update anything. That was last August. Sooooooo, I will be trotting my happy butt in to see an advisor on Friday and praying like heck that they make the change and accept the credit. Because I already have my BS, I absolutely refuse to go back and take Eng I. I'm not happy at all with HCC's administrative staff, but because I can't find another true evening nursing program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg....I'm pretty much stuck with them. I can't afford to quit my job and go to school full time...if I could I would be doing USF's accelerated program instead. :)

Wish me luck!!!

Okay well I didn't get an email from M.F. but my profile has been updated and no longer says "Applicant"!!!! :yeah:

WOOHOO!!!!!!

so after debating for days on whether to email m.f. or not, i decided i would and see if she would give me any insight into when alternates would know whether they have received a spot or not. hopefully i hear back from her soon.

Let me know what she says rmartineau_9. I've been so anxious. When I emailed her, all I got was that the commitee was meeting at the end of the month and that then she would send out letters. but its getting awfully close to the end of the month...maybe she'll give you a more specific answer.

Ok, why didn't the acceptance wait go this quickly?! Idk about everyone else, but time seems to be flying now...orientation will be OVER in three weeks!

I totally agree, time is just going by so quickly!

Anyone get their campus assignment yet?

Hi everyone,

I’m new to this forum and can’t believe how much great information is here. Congratulations to all of you who were accepted! I am currently waiting to hear the results of my appeal. I was initially denied because one of my transcripts was “missing”, but when I met with a counselor, it was immediately apparent that the transcript had been there the entire time.

Could anyone give me some information regarding the orientation? I’m just curious about the dates and times, as it sounds like it’s coming up soon…

Thanks for your help!

Good luck with your appeal! Hopefully you'll get your acceptance letter very soon! Orientation is less than three weeks away! Tuesday & Wednesday, November 9 & 10 from 8:30-4:00 at the Dale Mabry campus. Both days of orientation are mandatory....let us know when you receive your letter!

Well, I just got a reply from M.F. (I emailed her again yesterday, lol). Campus assignments letters will go out this afternoon!! BUT (now for the bad news)....it will only list which campus we're assigned to. It will NOT tell us what time we get. She says we have to wait for orientation for that (and any other) info. Blah!

Hopefulin10,

Thanks for the orientation information! I don't want to jinx myself by planning too far ahead without knowing if my appeal goes through, but I still have to ask for the time off from work. Hopefully, the appeals letters will be going out today with the campus assignments!!

Based on when we got our acceptance letters, we might have the campus assignment letters in mail as early as tomorrow.....

You are too funny! So it won't tell us if we got days or nights? Maybe she just means that we won't be assigned a class time (for example DM days has two options for their day time class). We register for our own class so that might be what she means. I guess we will know tomorrow! WOW we are so close!!!! I can't believe we only have 17 more days until orientation! Then the last couple of months are going to go so fast with finishing up this semester, getting our CPR certificate and the holidays. :D

I got my campus assignment letter in today! I got DM just like I had asked for but as suspected there isn't a specification for days or nights. So I guess the next step is Orientation and we will get more information there. I hope you all get yours in today as well!
