I'm sure that it's probably waaaay to early for this thread, but I figured what the heck. I have all of my application documents just about ready for submission. Just need to add the self addressed postcard and my check.
My main concern though is my Eng I credit. I already have a BS in Biology. The school I attended rewarded me with the Eng I credit based solely on my ACT score. I was originally going to apply for the Spring 2009 class and as I was reviewing my transcripts, I notice that HCC had not given me credit for Eng I. I contacted the Dean of Student Services at the DM campus about it and he referred me to the Asst Dean. From there it pretty much got ugly. My transcript originally had it listed as CLEP credit but I didn't have any CLEP scores of course. I had transferred several times and was given credit every where I went with no questions asked. Not to mention that I actually already have a BS so you would think that I wouldn't have to worry about any of the general education courses. I told all of this to the Asst Dean and the reply that I got was that the original "college awarded the credit in an unorthodox manner and that it wasn't her fault that HCC had higher standards than the other institutions that I had transferred to." Her email pretty much told me to f off in a not so nice way. It didn't help that I gave her a piece of my mind after receiving such a response. *sigh*
I managed to get my original transcript updated so that it no longer says CLEP. It says "ACT score 28" instead. I had an updated copy sent to HCC along with a letter explaining the change, however HCC has yet to update anything. That was last August. Sooooooo, I will be trotting my happy butt in to see an advisor on Friday and praying like heck that they make the change and accept the credit. Because I already have my BS, I absolutely refuse to go back and take Eng I. I'm not happy at all with HCC's administrative staff, but because I can't find another true evening nursing program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg....I'm pretty much stuck with them. I can't afford to quit my job and go to school full time...if I could I would be doing USF's accelerated program instead. :)
Wish me luck!!!
Well, I decided to do a little shoe shopping today because I know it's gonna be the hardest thing for me to find. I tried on many pair, different styles of NurseMates, Timberland, Skechers, Nike, Cherokee, etc, etc, and none of them had adequate arch support. I guess I will try the Nike Shox next (they didn't have them at the stores I went to today) because I've heard the arch support is great. If they don't work, I will go with one of the NurseMates because they were very comfortable, and I'll just buy some inserts for them. Has anyone else tried on shoes yet?? What did you think about the ones you tried?
well i took a look at the schedule today, doesnt look as if ill have much of a choice for a schedule since i want/need the pc campus and there is only one class avail. i would of thought they would of had at least 2 but i guess most people want dm, as it has 3 classes to choose from. i have a 4-year old, whos school runs 8:15-12:15 m-th and i was stressing about finding a sitter for every clinical day that my husband works(firefighter w/ 24 hr shifts). ha, suddenly i realize that this would have been a breeze compared to what im faceing now! tw 1pm -4pm, about as inconvenient as it could get! (for me anyway- anyone else?)... well, just like ive already done more than a few times for this degree, ill just have to figure something out! sighon another note- anyone have any luck finding any semi-comfortable, non or at least less see through white pants?...ive heard that i might just have to with some nude underware?
Hi! I can't say I've found some pants that are less see-through than the others...but the most comfortable ones for me are the Koi Lindsey. The other Koi styles are also extremely comfortable and the material is soft too, so I definitely recommend trying them on somewhere.
Thankfully, I am not in that position with class times like you are at the PC campus. I don't understand why they don't do a morning lecture over there, it would be a lot more convenient for those who have kids. Childcare is so expensive.
At least we'll know soon if we get our campus choices, because it will give us time to decide what we need to do/make arrangements.
Happymomma, I got my UA tops today and I HATE them. They look horrible on...the material is VERY soft and I was sooo excited when I pulled them out of their package, but the elastic empire waist is all big and fluffs out, doesn't lay down. So, I will be sending them back. I hate wasting money, especially on shipping costs, I really thought these were going to be great. Oh well. Sooo, hopefully I like the Landau ones. They're due to be delivered on Friday....

Oh bummer about the tops they looked nice in the pictures! I am glad you found some shoes that will work for you though! I am dreading the day I have to go out to do shoe shopping. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you with the Landau tops, they just have to work out for you.
Happymomma,
I just got home and my Landau tops were here, the delivery date on FedEx's website said Friday! I like the fit, but they are too short which is what I was worrying about....I wish I could find those Katherine Heigl ones for sale somewhere but I can't! Ugh! I'm not gonna ship the Landau ones back unless I find another kind that are better because I like them better than the others I've tried. As for my Koi pants, I LOVE them! The tall length is perfect!
I just checked my profile and it still says "Applicant" am I the only one?
You could always email M.F. about it lol....I'm glad I don't have her job, having to deal with all of us paranoid applicants!! (Seriously though, I would email her about it...what does it say when you click on progress toward degree? Does it list the nursing courses?)

Okay sent her a quick email so lets see what she says. The progress towards degree section does not list the nursing courses but I assume that will change when it no longer says applicant.

Let me know what she says! I am trying to control myself and NOT email her again regarding the campus assignment letters! haha DId you happen to ask her that too? lol It's ridiculous that they can't let us know when to expect the letters. It would keep a lot of people from emailing her all the time (like me).

You're not the only one that still says applicant. Mine not only still says applicant but it still does not list all of my prereqs that were required, plus it does not say that my items for accepting my nursing seat or my check was received. I e-mail M.F. a week or so ago and she did confirm that my items for accepting my seat were received. I would say not to be concerned because if you read 2010 posts people said that things in the system didn't change till way late in the game.
For those people that submitted an appeal, has anyone heard from the committee?
Well it's getting closer to the orientation plus to our start date! Has anyone started studying yet? Does anyone want to start a study group for the dosage calculation or anything else prior to classes starting? My Math sucks and I bought the dosage calculation book but have not been motivated enough to start it yet --- I'm finishing my bachelors in pre-law and taking a nutrition class (15 credit hours) plus working part-time.......
Someday in the future......
