Has anybody in NJ heard of a Board of Nursing ruling that says that RNs must co-sign an LPNs transcription of medication? My job has just told us of this decision and all the LPNs are very upset over this. Especially since most of them have at least 20 yr. experience as nurses. I have checked the Board of nursing website and nothing of this is noted anywhere. please let me know. thanks DebiH

Apr 28, 2009 i've never heard of this. ..LPN's have a license to pass meds and shouldn't need a co-signer. that is just crazy.. just another stupid idea. maybe it's a facility thing? you should send a email to the BON and see what they say.

Policy was also changed last year to be able to take a telephone order from a Nurse Practioner. I wouldn't want to sign my name to something that I didn't see/hear/do.

I think it's rather amusing. Just like the IV thing, one facility has no problem with it, while another one believes the opposite. Like the previous poster experienced, this will probably be a temporary foolishness.

They have more experience, knowledge and insight than I do at this point in my career. It just makes me feel bad that I have to do it when they are perfectly capable.

Just one more example of how LPNs are good enough to do the job but not good enough to get the recognition or pay.
