RNC-NIC/CCRN

Published

Hi to all the nurses of the wee-ones :dummy1:

I am currently studying to take my certification for my RNC-NIC. Just wondered if anyone used any online study/testing programs and passed or specific books and passed and if so which ones?

I have the

  • Core Curriculum for Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing
  • Nurse Builders Practice Questions
  • Handbook of Neonatal Intensive Care.
  • NRP 6th edition
  • STABLE

I really cannot do a class that I travel to and attend but I really would like to do an online type program if anyone can recommend one. I realize that I will pay a subscription fee.

Thanks so much. :bookworm:

Thanks for posting this, I'm wondering the same things!

Also wondering what made people decide to take this certification? I've been a NICU nurse for 8 yrs and just need a challenge, I guess ..... thinking of getting this certification.

I took the test several recert cycles ago. I used the book with all the review questions and went through each chapter. If I scored a 70% of better I felt like I knew most of the material well enough to pass that section. I focused my study efforts on those chapters I needed help with and read the review books you mentioned above. I passed the 1st time. Good luck to you!

Your current sources look like great ones. I would just add that regarding the Core Curriculum, I preferred to use the book that look just like it but that is the "Certification and Core Review". It's a question and answer book. It also provides the rationale for every answer including the incorrect answers which provides a large amount of useful test information. I found the questions in this book were most similar to the actual tests. Tests; because I took book certification exams, RNC & CCRN for reasons that I won't get into right now.

Another useful resource I found was a book called "Neonatal Certification Review for the CCRN and RNC High-Risk Examinations". I liked this book because it was full of questions and answers. It also had a feature where you can sign in online and take timed exams either on a mixed bag of topics or you can focus on specific topics.
