RN Supervisor salary

Published

Hi Everyone,

I was offered a position to move up from a staff RN to a Supervisor. I have my formal meeting later this week but was wondering what to expect salary wise. I know that salary differs depending on location but a ball park figure is fine since I have no clue what to even expect. I'm in Northern NJ if that helps at all.

Also, what are the basic responsibilities.

Thank you!!!

Specializes in Nurse Leader specializing in Labor & Delivery.

That is almost impossible to answer. I would expect at least 10% increase in pay, personally. And duties depends on the job, the facility, etc.

Typically if you are internal, it is just a percentage bump. I would estimate between 3-5%. There is usually a grid to that factors in any prior years of leadership experience. I was making around $28/hour at a previous job...I took on more responsibility at another organization and increased to $50/hour. It varies by location/cost of living, etc.

Specializes in Geriatrics, Dialysis.

I was offered a similar position and I turned it down. They were only offering $1.50/hr more than I am making now. Not even close to worth it for the added headaches in that job. This is in LTC in WI by the way.

I make $8,000 more a year after being promoted to supervisor from staff RN. It's worth it to me because I get weekends and holidays off. I still get the occasional call at home and have 24/7 responsibility for the unit.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I'm a nursing house supervisor / charge nurse in a salaried position at a small specialty hospital that is owned and operated by a national corporation. My pay is in the $75k range per year. I am in Texas.
