First off, hello everyone. I'm new to the forum and stumbled on it while spending hours trying to research my alternatives.
I'm in Vancouver, BC (permanent resident) planning to go for my RN. I'm a mature student with 19 credit hours from a US university, but most of those credits are liberal arts, so I'm not sure what will really count except for the math and English. I know I'll have to take the A&Ps and Psychs- biology was much more than 5 years ago, but I did make an A! lol
When I first started looking, I found that VCC has a relatively new RN BSN program and I spoke to the academic advisers who told me that there was no wait list. I got approved for my student loan, requested all my transcripts and registered as a student. Today (only a week later) I spoke with a different adviser who informed me that not only is there a wait list, but that there are 49 students on it and that they will only be taking 24. VCC only has a fall intake so she told me that if I'm "lucky" I could get in the class of 2012 but likely 2013! ack. I suppose the only positive there is that they are a first come, first serve school so I will eventually move up the list for sure.
In the meantime, the adviser suggested I apply to multiple schools in the Lower Mainland, and choose one to attend for prerequisites while biding my time, hoping for one of them to eventually send me an acceptance. I'm sure many of you are in the same boat. I applied to Douglas and will probably actually attend there because it is much closer to home than VCC, plus they do two intakes per year so that's a plus. Will anyone be attending the Douglas psych or A&P for summer 2011? Would be nice to know someone going in.
So I guess the purpose of my post is to first make contact with anyone else currently waiting out their time, and also to compare any up-to-date info you have on wait lists. As far as Douglas' preferential placement goes, with a max number of points at 14, what is a "good" number of points to have to be competitive? I'm thinking I will have around 8. >
Thanks for reading!
Welcome dinohoodie! -love that name :) not computer illiterate, on cnsa you have to email and request permission to post. Thanks for the info re: fit testing... Hopefully I can find something closer to the north shore. As for WHIMIS, we will be emailed a link soon so don't worry about it for now. it would be cool if we could all sit together and even better if some of us end the same classes :)
Hey everyone! Just wondering... I'm having trouble getting in to see my family doctor. She's always busy and my schedule is insane as well so nothing is working out. Do you think for the immunization forms I can just go to any walk in clinic? Bah... So annoying.
Maybe you can see the nurse in the BCIT clinic? I know that a RN can sign for it at well so try calling them.
Also, does anyone know a respiratory face fit test provider in the fraser valley?

Hey karlyac, you can go to student health services at bcit and someone will help you fill it out. That's what I did.
Hello,
I am a male pre-nursing student and I plan on applying to bcit. I was wondering if you guys can fill me in on your resume when you guys applied. Specifically: GPA, amount of credits, completion of the pre-reqs (Libs 7001,7002, psych, eng, and 200 level humanities), your work or volunteer experience and how many hours. Thanks!
Raymond
How do you guys feel about the optional books? So far I've gotten one of them.. Went in today to ask my doctor to go over my immunization form and she went ahead and just gave me all the immunizations I needed and blood test since I couldn't find my Hep B records from, I don't know, 13 years ago lol. I'm excited to start soon! Even though my left arm got poked with 3 needles and 2 in my right!
I've ordered all but 4 of the books now, still trying to see if I can find better deals but not really having luck with the Canadian Fundamentals or the Physical Examination books.

hey everyone,
i am a bcit nursing student for this upcoming January 2012 too! congrats to all that got in! I think im computer illiterate or something cause I signed up for the CNSA forum but for some strange reason i can't post a comment! but this thread works yay!
anyways, smiley65 and other bcit students, I did the fit test in richmond at one of the recommended places bcit sent out. I believe mine was the one with the word "environment" in the company's name out in Richmond. I asked a couple and the one i went to costed me ~$34 while another in Richmond is ~$40. So yup! hope this helps! it takes around 20-35min to get the fit test done. I thought it was a class that took 3 -4 hours long LOLOLOL.
ohh just wondering who else is going to bcit this jan, i would definitely love to sit close to you some of you guys during our orientation!
p.s anyone knows what the WHIMS thingy is? i know what it stands for but im a bit confused with what are we suppose to do? are we suppose to take a test or obtain a license or something?
