Howdy all,
My wife is just finishing up her first year as a RN.
We are thinking of relocating to Dallas, TX area. By the time we relocate she will have at least 3yrs as an RN. I was wondering if anyone out there would know or have idea of what an RN with (by the time we move) at least 3yrs experience could expect to make/get paid?? I know that base pay and total salary differ however what would the hourly wage be? Right now she makes $23 an hour.
Thanks....
It shouldn't be including differentials. Diffs are $2.75 evening, $3.50 night, and $6.00 for weekends. The diffs stack, too.
Parkland also just gave a market adjustment to the nurses that are already on staff, which I think is really nice! I've only been on staff for 2 months and already got my first raise, thanks to that.
I just saw in the Dallas Morning News on Sunday 9/28 that Presby Dallas and Presby Plano were hiring for their "winter plan". They were paying $45 and hour and you have to agree to work 16 weeks from now until April 2009 and must agree to work at least 2 holidays (out of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years). They were hiring for med/surg, ICU, ER, and women's services. And if memory serves me correct they only required a year of experience, but I could be wrong on that one.
Oh and then this past Sunday Doctor's Hospital had something similar paying $42 and hour plus shift diff.
Baylor currently pays 21.00/hr plus 0.50 extra (21.50) if you have experience as a tech, or extern. The hospitals that are known for paying the most are Cook Childrens (25.00/hr. they are known for their great pay), Children's in Dallas, and Parkland
Oooooh, no, Children's does NOT pay very well at all!! I can't remember the exact rate, but I have a few classmates that went to work there, and I think they are only making around $20/hr, which is by far the lowest I had heard of for a major hospital in the Dallas area. Of course, they can afford to pay their nurses low wages, because there are so many people who want to get into peds. I wonder if they will have to raise their starting rate, though, once they open up the new wing of the hospital so they can fill all of those new vacancies.
Btw, the last I heard, UTSW (St. Paul & Zale) pays their new grads $23/hr, not including diffs. Benefits their are pretty good, since it is a government-owned (or something like that) hospital. They pay your health insurance premiums, and the retirement plan is good.
Parkland also has really good benefits, once again, because of being state/city-owned. Health insurance premiums are low, and instead of paying into Social Security, that money goes into a retirement pension fund.
While I enjoyed my clinical roatation at Baylor, their pay is just too low, and their benefits are not very great either.
Actually Children's is now paying new grads 24.75. I know that for a fact because I just talked to their graduate nurse recruiter today. I am not sure if they have recently increased their pay for new grads, but as of right now they pay the most of any hospital in Dallas.
That is really good to hear! I hope my former classmates were able to get that raise...

Is that salary including differential(s) already? Thanks!
