Rn to Pa????

Nurses Career Support

Published

I'm just about to start college and have listed my major has nursing, but I was wondering if it would be a possibility to get my RN, then later on in the future get into a PA school if I wanted to. I'm thinking this would be the best path to take into PA school because I would already have a lot of medical experience plus a very secure job to fall back on if the PA thing didn't work out. Of course if being an RN makes me happy I will not seek further education, but I am positive that I belong in the medical field somewhere. I'm currently recovering from ACL/Meniscus reconstructive surgery and it just fascinates me, so I'd love to specialize in orthopaedics whether I'm an RN or PA. Any advice will be appreciated!!!!

:balloons: hello wildflower05...welcome to allnurses. :)

i once had a pa who used to work as a rn. he was great! he still kept his nursing license current just in case he wanted to moonlight on the side. he was active duty in the army as an officer. he had an excellent bedside manner, so that added to him being a great pa! :)

Certainly is possible, tho most PA schools are grad school now - require a higher level of bio/chem classes than NS. So, if that is your goal, plan accordingly.

Good luck.

There is a 13 month PA program in one of the Dakota's that you might look into. We had two nurses that did it.
