The most frustrating thing happened to me today! After two months of trying to get a job exclusively within a hospital setting, I decided to branch out and start looking at home care and nursing homes. I was so excited to get a call back from a home care agency the same day I submitted my application...until she said, "We can't hire you as an RN without any experience, but we'll hire you as an STNA." SERIOUSLY? I can see continuing to work as an STNA until an RN position opens up for you...but to apply for a job as an RN and get offered an STNA job?

Disappointing & Frustrating? Of course it is. You have your license and are ready to go
However, consider this:
You've been looking for 2 months or more without success.
It's hard to get your foot in the door.
Employers value experience.
This opportunity does allow you to gain more hands on experience, and beef up your resume. It gets you into an agency, and in line for the next position. Do you have any idea how long this might be?
What are your prospects?
You can refuse and keep looking, and maybe something will pop soon[ or you can take the job and continue your search while employed and see what comes through first. If you start there and something else comes through you can always resign and move on.
It's not what you want, but at least you do have an offer, which is more than many others on the board have.
It is your choice, consider all possibilities.

Consider the alternative, you are turned down for an STNA job, because you are an RN. And still, no one will hire you.

Remember you will be held to the RN standards/responsibilities of care and your license will be in jeopardy if anything goes south because you only did STNA level of care when you could have done RN level of care(in essence they will get an RN for STNA wages). I hope you understand what I am trying to say, I am in no way demeaning the STNA's role (I was one).
Thanks for your comments! I actually just got a job as an RN at a nursing home. I will be starting soon! I knew that if I kept trying, I'd be able to find a job. I was applying for positions every day. It's not in a hospital, which was my first choice, but I'm very happy that I can start my career as an RN.
