Has anyone received their NP license while on disciplinary with their RN licenses? I graduated with my FNP and currently an active RN in California but is on probation by BRN. I sent my application in for NP and furnishing license and wondering will they hold it back being that I am currently on probation or since I obtain active RN license will they approve them being that they are both from BRN?
Welcome to AN, I see this is your first post. In all states if you are under discipline for the RN license you will NOT be able to get the NP license since you must have an "unencumbered RN license" to practice as NP. But you need to contact the Cali BON. The NP licenses is linked to the RN license.
I met someone who is on probation and has her NP and is currently working. although, she did not obtain her NP while on probation she had her NP long before, was revoked and had it reinstated. May her situation is different but I thought ill ask. I sent out the application for my license and scheduled my test for certification. In Cali, we do not have to be certified to get our license. But I will keep in touch and let you know what happens. Thank you! Oh, yea...and I have called for an update on my application status and tey said they do not see anything stating a hold on my application, but as I said, I'll let you know. It takes about 3 months process, they are so behind processing. thanks again.
I don't know any state that will allow you to either obtain an APN license while on a restricted RN license or work on an APN license with a revoked RN license.
From the CA BON:
IV. REPORTING PRIOR CONVICTIONS OR DISCIPLINE AGAINST LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
Applicants are required under law to report all misdemeanor and felony convictions. "Driving under the influence"
convictions must be reported. Convictions must be reported even if they have been adjudicated, dismissed or expunged
or even if a court ordered diversion program has been completed under the Penal Code or under Article 5 of the Vehicle
Code. Also, all disciplinary action against an applicant's nurse practitioner, registered nurse, practical nurse, vocational
nurse or other health care related license or certificate must be reported. Also any fine, infraction, or traffic violation over
$1,000.00 must be reported.
Failure to report prior convictions or disciplinary action is considered falsification of application and is grounds
for denial of licensure/certification or revocation of license/certificate.
When reporting prior convictions or disciplinary action, applicants are required to provide a full written explanation of:
circumstances surrounding the arrest(s), conviction(s), and/or disciplinary action(s); the date of incident(s), conviction(s)
or disciplinary action(s); specific violation(s) (cite section of law if convicted), court location or jurisdiction, sanctions or
penalties imposed and completion dates. Provide certified copies of arrest and court documents and for disciplinary
proceedings against any license as a RN or any health-care related license; include copies of state board
determinations/decisions, citations and letters of reprimand.
NOTE: For drug and alcohol convictions include documents that indicate blood alcohol content (BAC) and sobriety date.
To make a determination in these cases, the Board considers the nature and severity of the offense, additional
subsequent acts, recency of acts or crimes, compliance with court sanctions, and evidence of rehabilitation.
Im guessing your best bet is to reapply once your probation is cleared. I would talk to your lawyer or your investigator. See how that works out. I would definately appeal but I believe most have said that they want you to be atlas 1/2 done before attempt to get probation dropped back to sooner
I am in the exact same boat and was wondering your outcome on this manner. I am in Virginia HPMP program and have 11 months left, but I have completed my Masters and have been approved to sit for my boards. Just worried Virginia will not allow me to get my NP until I have completed HPMP. What was the outcome? Anyone else with experience in this?
