RN moving to Tuson

Since it looks like all the posts are directed at the valley... I am an RN with 5 years experience (med-surg, Peds, ICU/PCU, peri-op, endo, ambulatory infusion, pre and post heart caths) at a Regional Hospital. Do to all of my family moving I am planning a move within about 6 months to Tucson. Anyone have advice on good hospitals to work at? Good units? What can be expected pay (broad)? And any chance of relocation or sign on bonuses? I am actually thinking I would like to do more of a NOC shift schedule again doing 12s, is this helpful with getting a job at all? Currently I work in what is pre and post op, also do rotation through our endo suites, and am the lead on our heart caths pre and post. The schedule though is 5 8 hour shifts a week with call, and makes it quite difficult without family here. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

Anyone?

I have been in Tucson for 18 months after moving from Connecticut. It took me 9 months prior to moving to get my AZ license. I was promised a job at UMC, which never came to be. I am now working at one of the Catholic hospitals and I am miserable. From my brief experience all I can say is that the weather is great, but, nurses here are not treated well.

I can report to you that I have seen cath jobs listed. Also ICU openings, which seem to quickly chew and spit out all who dare enter.

The BON is apparently stagnant. Also read about the Amanda Trujillo case to get an idea of the work environment here.

UAMC is a good hospital w/ probably the best rep in town (in my opinion). the only unit I know you definitely want to stay away from is the GYN surg unit 7W. they hire tons of new grads so hopefully with your experience you will be able to get hired. Good luck!

Interesting post about the nursing board in Az. Horrible reputation on many fronts

AZBON is lately being trumpeted as corrupt by many nurses. Not just this one case but several other cases for disciplining nurses for minor acts unrelated to Nurse Practice Act. Those reasons for this behavior is becoming known but wouldn't be allowed here. Seek and you shall find.
