Rn moving to fl from nyc after 26 years

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello Everyone! After 26 years and accomplishing my RN degree here in NYC I'm ready for a change! I'm SOOOO OVER this city! I visited FL a couple of times for vacation and family visits and i love it! I'm looking to move either to the coral springs or fort lauderdale area. Just a few questions....

  1. What major hospitals I can apply for in those areas?
  2. What is the base pay salary for an RN AAS with 3 years of home care experience?
  3. Anything I need to know that will help me get the job?
  4. Are there any RN's that moved to FL and regret making the move? and if so what are the positives & negatives?

Thank you ! Any help with figuring out this school system would be great!

What do you pay monthly for insurance?

Specializes in Emergency Room.

You're welcome! For health insurance? For my daughter and myself for medical, dental, and vision about $45 per pay period. It might be more depending on how many kids you have not sure. We get paid every other Thursday. We have a self funded plan called WebTPA.

Wow, we pay for 5 people close to 300 every two weeks.....BCBS of NJ

Specializes in Emergency Room.

That is expensive. I think the price might be bc we are self funded and any outpatient tests are done at our own facilities.

Do they have a nurse/ patient ratio that they follow ?

Do they have computerize charting??

I honestly don't know I'm not a nurse yet. I work in registration & authorizations. Our computer system is Epic for the whole organization.

Sorry. Does Epic mean good or bad?? Lol

@cynthia housing is way less I'm paying for a 2 bedroom all amenities included in a gated community 1,056, yea good luck finding that in NYC,,LOL, patient to nurse ratio? not sure cause remember i work for the home health department, every department is different. In the home health is 5-6 patients per day and if it is a start of care is 4 patients. They do assist with relocation but you have to mention it in the interview. They will reimburse you eve for the fingerprints on your first check;)I cannot help you when it comes to schools cause I have no little ones:sarcastic:

@ cynthia, EPIC is system utilized by the health care professionals, in order to see the patient information, very easy system and manageable. In home health we use Encore and EPIC. We use EPIC to check the patient status before we visit their homes it is useful to have a history of the pt. Then we use Encore clinicals to document and billing. ;)

@itsmejull guide, As a single person I pay $59 a month for full dental & medical:up: LL143knb explained it more in details! She did an awesome job!

Oh wow I've just applied there too last Sunday. I am homecare experienced looking to make that big move South too! Hopefully they'll get back to me soon :-)

CRN85 send me some good vibes!

CRN85, got the interview at Lee Memorial. And then nothing else. Follow up calls turned out nothing neither. Bummer

Sorry to hear that @double_minority, They need nurses in our department like yesterday. I think you should go in person to home health department and apply! Best of Luck!
