RN to MD or DO

Hello, I recently passed my boards and I am officially an RN. I was wondering if any of you went back to medical school or know anybody that went back to medical school..

I am interested in knowing how the process works! Thank you.:yes:

    I know a few nurses who became physicians. The process is that you complete the prereqs for med school, ace the MCAT, and apply to medical school, same as anyone else. Best wishes!

    I am now taking the steps that is needed for medical school admissions. I know a few Medical Doctors that were Registered Nurses before medical school. Two of them first were APRN (anesthesia and midwifery) before going to medical school. I have already met with the medical school of my choice and one of the admission advisors kind of whispered that it was a good time now, because they highly look upon RNs with experience (but not more than 5 years of experience)... If you would like to know more, feel free to message me. I have obtained some helpful information about transition.

    My dream is to be an operating room nurse. I love surgery. I also like Labor and Delivery but that is my second option.

    I am going to apply to OR positions and hopefully I can get into one.

    There are some NPs that work in surgical specialities but that is not generally the norm.

    MD/DOs are the only HCPs able to do major surgical procedures.

    PAs, NPs, and RNFA may all function as first assistants.

    If major surgery is what you want to do then MD/DO is really the only path.

    On the flip side, L&D is largely done by RNs.

    MD or DO is pretty competitive. You'll need great grades in the prereqs and they typically like to see applicants who has done some sort of research. you would want to do very well on the MCAT exam which will include a new subject this year.

    I am thinking just to stick with nurse with nurse practitioner. I already went to school for 4 years to earn my Bachelors in Nursing. I think it will be an easier path for me to becoming a Nurse practitioner. That way, I will be able to at least assist with surgeries. However, I am looking to do travel nursing in the middle east. Does anybody know international nursing agencies ? thank you!!

    I have not taken any pre-med classes. After I passed my NCLEX ( March 4, 2015), I started to think about medical school, but I just wanted to get some opinions and advice to see where to start.
