RN Mastery APP (NCLEX)

Published

Hello everyone!

My NCLEX is scheduled for just one month from today (OY!). I've done the HURST review and at this point, I'm reviewing all of my notes and starting to work on the HURST tests. I also have the Lippincott book and am working on questions each day (to correspond with the Hurst topic) and LaCharity (also to correspond with the system/topic). In addition, I have UWORLD (so hard), Kaplan Q banks and RN Mastery App.

So here's my question-- each system is completely different in terms of the way the questions are worded, difficulty level , focus and application. How do I assess my progress? What do I do if two systems have conflicting answers/rationales for a similar question? How do I know if any of these systems are mirroring the NCLEX level that I need to pass comfortably?

For example, I find that the Mastery App and LaCharity are generally more straightforward and "easier" and my scores are MUCH higher on these (and Lippincott) than with Kaplan Q bank and UWorld (where I am scoring in the mid-high 50s and 60s).

I am also wondering if there is the possibility of studying too much--because it seems that my scores in many cases go down (?) and although I am much more familiar with a larger number of topics and diseases and procedures, I tend to read more into each question and invariably....make a stupid error. Any thoughts on this?

Yes you can study too much. Yes you can use too many resources and just like you are getting confused.

You have an entire month to study. If you've planned out how you are going to use your study resources I'd say you are well prepared. It is possible to study too much and use too many resources. I personally only stuck to Kaplan and on my downtime I used NCLEX mastery for a different type of question style. Answering 100% of the Kaplan qbank in 2 weeks helped me pass the NCLEX in 85 questions. My best tip for you is to answer tons of questions, more than focusing on content review. It is not all about knowing your content, but about knowing what the question is really looking for in its answer. Good luck!

P.S. You will never feel prepared enough for this exam but stay calm and have faith in your ability to pass it!!! [emoji3]

Thanks KK Happy! Did you find Nclex RN Mastery to be "easier" than Kaplan?

:)

Yes, I did. I liked mastery because its an app and overall easier to use. Kaplan provides a test environment very similar to what you'll see on NCLEX.

I used nclex mastery, exam cram and Lippincott's Q&A Review. I found conflicting rationales so used one source at a time. You can def over study! My scores were 50-70. I started to focus more on the doing questions rather than the content and it helped. I definitely didn't feel totally prepared but who does?!

Before I went to the exam I listened to guided meditation on youtube in my car to calm my nerves which might sound crazy but I think it helped! I passed in 75.

Just try not to over think the questions, trust in the decision tree!

Thanks Jordan! Hmm..yes, I usually get to two choices that can be rationalized as a priority, etc and I have found some conflicting rationales. I guess, the best thing to do is just stick with one approach and use the best judgement possible.

I'm just really freaking out and feeling horrible about the test and sure that I'm going to fail!
