RN Looking to move to MN.....St Paul's Children's Hosp Question

U.S.A. Minnesota

Published

Hello!!!! I am an ER RN and I got a call from a recruiter about a RN job at the children's hospital in St. Paul. Anyone know anything about it? What is nursing like in MN? How is the cost of living? What is the area like?

Alicia

It's a very good hospital! I haven't worked in that system, but it's highly respected and people stick around for awhile

The cost of living is variable, depending on what you want. a 2BR townhome, single car garage across the street from me just sold for $105k

MN is a great place to live, if you can handle the seasons

*** Depends on where you come from. I stated working in Minnesota a couple years ago. I have worked per diem at several of the larger hospitals in the Twin Cities area and am now staff at one of them. For me working in Minnesota was like taking a step back in time. Low nurse autonomy, and not quite up on EBP.

However the pay is decent and cost of living can be low. There are some very expensive areas. Most of the nurses I know who have families drive in from smaller towns in the area where houses are less expensive and schools better.

Plenty of night life for young single nurses.

I haven't worked the Children's hospital. However they do have a good reputations as being a decent employer. Expect not work at your full scope of practice. However that is true throughout the Twin Cities from my observation.

I know I am late in the thread here, but I am an RN at Children's in St. Paul and I can't imagine working anywhere else. The organization takes good care of their staff and I work with really great people. Nobody seems to ever leave unless they are moving, which I think is a testament to job satisfaction. I hope you consider it, you won't regret it!
