Hi. I'm moving this to the Mass. forum where you can hopefully hone in on some locals. Good luck.

The short answer to your question is no, it's not easy for a new grad to find a job in Worcester right now, at UMass or elsewhere (and even surrounding towns). I should know--I'm in that boat right now. Some places have said they'll be hiring more new grads in the fall, so hopefully things will get better soon.

I definately feel your pain. I left Massachusetts last year to futher my career in Med/Surg. I finally land a job in the ICU/Tele in AZ. If you are flexible and willing to relocate somewhere else I am sure they will hire you. Although, I am looking now to go back home to Massachusetts in October. Good luck to that right.
When I first took my boards in 2005, I landed a job in a nursing home. Not where I wanted to be, but I can say that this is where I learned most of my experience. A year and a few months later I finally got into St. Vincents. Sadly enough, they had to let me go due to low patient census and did not have postions for a New Nurse. Apparently, they still considered me a New Grad, because I haven't been a nurse for longer than 5 years. I had to do agency to make ends meet at local nursing homes.
My suggestion if you can't relocate is try the nursing homes or the rehab place in Westborough (I forget their name), they will hire new grads. Then keep on trying the hospitals and wait and see.

Well, it looks like I'll be starting out in LTC as well--not official yet but the interview went very well, they're just checking references and will be getting back to me in the next few days. I have one more year of school (direct-entry NP program) so relocating was not an option for me. The LTC facility where I just interviewed and will most likely be hired looks like a good one and they indicated that they are willing to be flexible as far as working around my school schedule once that starts up, so I think it will be a good situation.

ye and i may have crossed paths...lol...and i think you are referring to Whittier rehab, 150 flanders road, westborough.....
Yes, they hired a girl from my graduating class. She ended up working in St. Vincent's a year later in Med/Surg. Then, she is now in the ER there and loves it.
As for crossing paths we might of.

Try the umass web site. Go to http://www.umassmemorial.org and click onto careers. Good luck. I have been working as an RN at UMASS Memorial for 3 years now and think it's a good place to be. Hope you find something you like. :)
