RN interested in working in Australia

Published

Hello guys

I am a new member of this forum. I have been following lots of news from you guys. It is actually pretty good forum of all. I am a nurse from Thailand and I have got my RN licenses in USA. I feel like I am far away from my home. I want to relocate my work to Australia which is pretty close to Thailand and study my Grad school as well. Anybody know how much the nurse get paid in Australia?

Hello Alina

Apply to http://www.nmb.nsw.gov.au/ . I enquired about nursing registration for my cousin late last year and was advised that Australia recognises NCLEX and nursing licence from the US. You might not have completed your initial nursing qualification in the US but because of the NCLEX and current licence, you are eligible to apply. I have a friend from the Phillipines who with NCLEX and current nursing licence from the US, never worked in the US but had a number of yrs of nursing experience in the Phillipines and no hassles with obtaining registration in Australia.

There are a number of Australian nursing agencies which you can google. Most of them are pretty reliable.

Thank you so much for the information! this is such a great news!!! but since i was trained in China, do they need me to take a language test such as IELTS or OET? or they can waive the requirement? I took IELTS for abtaining my visascreen certificate from CGFNS, I am afraid my score is not good enough.( overall 7.0, speaking 7.0) thank you!!

You will need to sit English exam but really need to check with the state you are applying to. May be accepted, found this which may help http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/changes/_pdf/GSMchange_english.pdf

I am concerned you would want the english language test waivered. It is in your best interest to have the best possible speaking english you can, especially working in a hospital where you will need to communicate with all kinds of people.

Absolutely - although there are many Chinese enclaves here and even some hospitals that are almost entirely catering to Chinese people - there is no second language. Among ANY group of people of Chinese origin here you will find at least one who only speaks Mandarin, one who only speaks Cantonese, one who only speaks an obscure dialect and one who only speaks English because they were born here!!

You will NEED English - every day. We are a monolingual culture still, and although that is changing there are too many different secondary languages for any one of them to be reliable.

:balloons:Thank you so much, everyone!!! you all are very helpful. I will go ahead to register in NSW and hope everything will be going smooth.
