RN generic full Time fall 2014- Miami dade college

Published

I'm applying for the Generic Full Time RN program for fall 2014 (August). I took my NLN Pax exam already and got an overall score of 143. Curious if this will be goof enough to get in? Can't find any stats since the previous test was the TEAS... Looking forward to hearing back from anyone else that has taken the test already. Thx.

I would like to start studying. But, I don't even know if I will get in yet

Hi cutiejo! Wow first month on nursing school is over. Done all the first exams and let me tell you isn't easy...90% of the class didn't pass fundamentals and health assessment. I'm super happy to get a B :)

Only 70 more days to finish first semester ??

Hi everyone

I am currently completing my prerequisites and I have a question. Did you purchase a new backpack for nursing school?

I pay for school out of pocket because I don't want any debt going into nursing school and I am trying to formulate a budget for nursing school supplies.

Also, how many books do you carry to class on a daily basis? I have read of other nursing students from different schools using rolling backpacks, do you find these necessary for your book load at MDC? Are their any students in your class that have one?

As far as supplies go were there any expenses that completely caught you off guard that you were not aware of?

I know about the basic supplies for clinicals, nursing shoes, and scrubs.

I'm in homestead full time generic program. I purchased a rolling backpack because some of the books are heavy. You can use whatever backpack you want. Some people who have classes all day will just put the books they need in their non rolling backpack and leave the rest in the car so they don't have to carry them all and go back to car to switch them out between classes. But get whatever backpack is best for you, there is nothing mandatory.

Supplies: The school will say you have to purchase scrubs from them but it isn't necessary. Just get one the same style and color and get them embroidered. You can wear whatever shoes you want to class. You will need to buy white enclosed shoes for clinicals. They don't have to be fancy, anything white. Got mine at payless. They will also ask for you to purchase a nursing bag from bookstore that comes with a bunch of supplies. You won't be using this until later in the year, costs 100 dollars. You will also need to get a stethoscope. You will use it right away in fundamentals lab to do blood pressures and in health assessment. You can get a very decent one for less that 100 dollars. I got mine on amazon for about $75 littman brand which is very good. School will provide free access to references books on ucentral so you won't have to purchase them if you don't want to.

Thanks for the info!!! This will really help me figure out how much to save up.

Is not mandatory as a prerequisite and will really not help you understand anything further than what the lecture class teaches. It is however required to apply for bachelor programs, and it is a really interesting and fascinating class.
