RN in clinical area vs hospital floor

Published

I was wondering if anyone had any advice between choosing to work in a clinic as a new RN or on the hospital floor? feedback as too any Pro's and Con's to either choice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

If you can get a job in the hospital - take it. Unless it just does not work for family reason. Sometimes you need the 9-5 with no holidays and sometimes no weekends. Clinics tend to pay less and are not great places to develop skills. However, as a new grad, you don't know much anyway, so whatever job you get, will be a learning experience.

Clinic-Better hours, less pay, less skills but less stress

Hospital- Worse hours, better pay, better skill building, more stress

Thank you for your input.

I had the choice between an urgent care and ICU when I started. I took ICU, I learned of lot of skills and it helped me quite a bit in ER. I think I never would have felt fulfilled starting out in a clinic where the skill set isn't as broad.

Now I can't afford to go to a clinic because of the decreased pay although I'd love the hours.

Thank you for your insight that helps a lot with my decision.
