RN to BSN online

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

In preparation for getting a BSN, I am trying to gather information regarding online BSN programs. if you have links to what you feel is an affordable, online, no residency requirement program, please post 'em here.

One program that I came across was at Thomas Edison State College. does anyone have any information regarding their program? I was hoping to find someone that has first hand (or second hand ? ) experience with the TESC RN to BSN program as it seems to be an affordable option, which, of course, is always a bonus. from reading the catalog on their site it appears that you can use some of the EC exams to satisfy the upper-level nursing courses.

The TESC program looks pretty decent but I am looking for some feedback to any online rn to BSN program. if anyone has links to what they feel is an affordable online rn/bsn program please post the link here.

hey probably! I had a bunch of young kids while doing the bulk of my rn-bsn program and it was one reason i did not choose u of p or any other accelerated program-i wanted quarters or semesters to get things done. Good luck!

Greetings,

I appreciate your reply. Please comment on completing a class in five to ten weeks. A five week course sounds very difficult. Ten weeks sounds difficult. However, it seems that ten or 12 weeks would be a lot less stressful than a five or six week course.

What on line college did you choose? How long were the quarters? How much instruction can be taught/ learned in five weeks? FIVE WEEKS!? Is some material omitted? I've taken summer semesters, and I thought that fast paced!

Help allay my anxieties!

BTW, my wife & I have two small children and I work full time nights.

hey! i am in my second semester of my online bsn program with u of wyo. i am really enjoying it! i didn't want to do u of p d/t the 5 week classes, the price, the powerpoint presentations to do, and group work...with things so hectic in my life i needed something a little more paced out. any other ques, please ask! just do it!

missnuse01,

I just passed my ADN-RN and looking for an online school where i can continue my BSN. I am planning to work while pursuing my BSN degree, would you recommend Univ of Wy? I need a school which will not bomber me with loads of paperworks, and work loads, and that will still allow me to have some time and energy to work. I actually have completed all the general education requirements for Bachelor's degree in my school, but decided to finish up with my ADN to be able to take NCLEx and start working. Do you know, or does anyone here know, if i still have to take g.e. classess or i cud just take the remaining classes that i haven't taken for the BSN track? (e.g. Leardership, Community, Research). Need some advise here and any response would be appreciated.

Thanks all =)

Hey!

My whole program has been nothing but group work and power point.

I thought everybody had to do that stuff!

Boy do I feel cheated.

Oh well, at least I'm not going to UofP and have mega sized loans to pay off when I graduate.

HUH? Did you go Univ of Wy and had all those group works and powerpoint? Can you tell me more about it =/... thankx

NLN approved programs have to have a "clinical" component. But it's not what you think. In my program we get clinical hours during the health assessment course (another NLN requirement) we were given clinical hours for doing a head to toe assessment (very in-depth, meaning looking inside the eyes, ears, doing cranial nerve checks, relflexes, etc.) and we had to follow an MD or ARNP for 8 hours. During leadership we have to spend a day with a manager and we get "clinical" time for that, during Community Health we had to teach two different populations a subject (I taught my coworkers about impaired nurses, and a group of men in my home about prostate/men's health). Stuff like that. There is no going to hospitals and taking patients, because after all, we are RNs.

Hi Tweety,

I'm new in this thread and saw this. Wondering where did you take your RN-BSN online? I just recently passed my NCLEX-RN and is considering to pursue my Bachelor's degree online. Looking at some threads, Univ of Wy stands out (for now). Do you have any recommendation? I will be self supporting my school (financial) and would have to work while taking classes. Any advice wud be appreciated. Thankx

Generic Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program | Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences

I am currently at Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences, one of the top-rated BSN online programs in the country, and tuition is only $275. Best deal I found for the education and degree!

AND you don't have clinical requirements, which is great, considering most of us are working nurses and certainly have experience. It's about the only school I found that does not have any clinicals.

Attending Ohio Univ online RN-BSN and really like it. The nursing classes are 5 weeks but I like the format. I work FT and have 2 kids, spouse and LIFE. I highly recommend the program. There is a thread that is solely OU you can check out for more info. Good luck!

Hello! Just wanted to find out how Univ of Wyoming is coming along? I like the positive responses regarding this school. Any drawbacks to share that you might have encountered up until this time? Is the work rigorous along with working FT hours? Keep up the good work

I just finished up at univ of wyo, totally doable. It is based on semesters. They just did away with their clinical hours for their last class, I was in the last year that they required them. But the clinical class was mostly self directed with a few papers and a presentation. I have 3 kids, did most of the course work when I had 4 little kids (took a break when my eldest died), and I worked 2 jobs-sole income earner in my family. Very very doable, took 3-4 classes my first year...a little busy work, but not overwhelming. Somehow I missed all those posts from last July, so if someone still wants further info please post or message me thanks.

Be proud of yourself. You did it. I'm just starting a 13month online program at La Salle University. It does seem tough but doable. Hopefully it will go by soon. Congratulations.:)

I am truly sorry to here about your loss. I hope you and your family are doing well. Are semesters 15 or 18 wks in length? Does that mean 2 class per semester?Glad to hear no more clinicals, but was ok since I read 4 hrs per wk. Any drawbacks to the program? Would you recommend this university to others? Are there any group projects? Do you have direct communication with the instructors or the life coach people? Any surprises right before you were going to graduate such as additional fees to pay or additional classes they just realize you need in order to graduate? I am a little intimidated by an all on-line program. Did it take you 2 years to finish? I appreciate your positive, encouraging post on this website. I have been searching schools for about 2-3 wks and it has been exhausting.
