hi,
i am currently enrolling rn-bsn program at fhchs but they require me to commit the specific time of the day every week (eg. every wednesday at 1100-1200) to attend live chat session. i cannot manage my work schedule around to comply with this requirement so i am thinking of dropping out. i thought online course is suppose to be more flexible. (which i may be totally wrong.)
now i am considering between university of texas at arlington, chamberlain college of nursing and drexel university.. still have no idea of their program layouts and requirements. anyone is a current student or have graduated from these places? any suggestions?
thank you

I did Chamberlain's RN-BSN program, and it was completely asynchronous -- i.e., no required chat times or anything. Sorry the other program didn't work out for you. Was that going to be a requirement for every class, or just one? Seems a bit restrictive for an online program.
Hi Lunah,
Thanks for your reply. Do you have to do lots of essays? How do you like it?
For FHCHS, I heard it's a requirement for every classes. They said it will be better in the Nursing core classes (for 7 weeks class, you only need to attend 3, and for 14 weeks classes, you only need to attend 4 - I think that makes sense.) But I have to do many gneral classes too and how am I going to get through that? Some instructors are not flexible at all. :-(
I will look into more details about Chamberlain.
Thank you again for your input.
:-)
Yes, Chamberlain's program was heavy on discussions and paper-writing (like most online programs!), and is also very expensive. I did enjoy it, though. Good luck!

The UT-A program has a good reputation and is totally on-line. It's also far less expensive than the others you mention. UT-A was my first choice but they were impossible to deal with in terms of their evaluation. Rather than take 4 additional non-nursing courses, I opted instead for the Ohio Univer program. OU was far easier to deal with and much more equitable in their evaluation (no extra courses for me). This is also a totally on-line program and is actually a bit less expensive than Texas. Completed 2 courses so far and have no complaints.
You could also check out Slippery Rock State U in PA Univer of Wyoming and Thomas Edison in NJ. All have totally on-line RN-BSN programs with reasonable tuition, though still more than UT-A's or OU's. Probably quite a few more out there as well.
Good luck to you.
Thanks Chuckster! Your info helps a lot.
I contacted UTA and the way they responded to my questions was very unprofessional so I didn't get a positive feeling towards the program. I actually paid for application fee and had requested my transcripts to send over there but I don't think I am considering going there anymore. So, now I am left with Drexel and Chamberlain.
Anyhow, I will research on other courses you mentioned.
Thank you so much for your input.
monamac, since you're still in the looking-at phase, let me suggest this one:

This was my second choice, behind Chamberlain. Actually I preferred this to Chamberlain, but went with Chamberlain in the end because my credits went just a little further with Chamberlain than UW-Green Bay. Tuition is less than Chamberlain, too.

I am attending Ohio University and so far I like it. They were VERY fair with my transcript evaluations and I love the 5 week course layout. I think they're worth a look. Good luck with your venture!

mtsteelhorse, how long is Ohio's program?
Go to the Ohio Univ thread for Distance Education and you'll learn tons about their program. The length depends on how many total courses you need. It's about 14 months average from what I understand. There are 12 nursing courses and you have to meet their other requirements. I was able to transfer in everything but one class. Check out the thread and you will learn a lot! Good luck to you.
Thank you all for your input.
Luck hasn't been on my side lately. I was thinking that I am going to go for Drexel but now I am stuck with the application process again.
I am obviously international but I think my English must not be that bad. I have my first degree (BA in Graphic Design) from London, UK (they obviously speak English over there) and I have 2 other AS degrees from USA (one of which is Nursing) I am also currently full-time employed as RN in an English speaking facility (A hospital in FL - I must have some English communication skills in my pocket) But the admission advisor at Drexel would require my to take TOEFL in order to complete an application process This is truely a slap in the face. No other academic institutions in the USA have done this to me since I have such a long, successful academic history in English speaking countries (both UK and USA)
As for now, I am so tired with school hunting.
Chamberlain is nice but I am a little skeptical about not taking any prereqs. I am not sure if this is going to hurt me later on if I want to go further academically.
