Dear Nurse Beth,
I am a RMA but I wanted to go back to school to become an LPN. My question is begin that I tried the program twice already I am afraid of failing again. Do you think I should try it again?
Dear Afraid,
That's a tough question. You're brave to consider it again.
I think it depends on understanding what were the reasons for failing before, and have they been resolved?
Not enough time, not knowing how to study effectively, attendance.....?
If you don't have a good idea of what went wrong, it could happen again.
Sometimes in life it's good to ask someone in your life who you trust, for example, a close
friend or your mother, for insight. They know you well and the feedback can help you make
important choices.
It would be great for you to succeed and be the LPN you want to be. I hope it
works out for you.
Best wishes,
Nurse Beth

I don't want to say no but usually people get going by the second try. Good luck tho.

Before you try again you need to have a very good idea about why you did not succeed, and you need to have a workable concrete plan for overcoming that specific difficulty.
Alternatively, have you thought about other related fields you could get involved in? I know there are other ways you could provide care to patients besides being an lpn. If you look around you might find something you like just as well or better.

If you don't take the risk and toss the dice you'll never know how awesome you can be. I say go for it! Nothing good is easy - plus we need you. More available nurses is always better than less in my opinion. Plus, if you've ever been admitted as a patient yourself, you'll know having a full quiver of nurses on a well staffed unit is a blessing. You can do it!
