Just wondering if there are any other Riv students in here?? I'm actually taking my pre-reqs right now and start the nursing program in Fall of 09. I'm in the evening program.

:)

hi there! i am hoping to get accepted into the fall 2010 program at rivier, also in the evening division. i had to start (unfortunately) with taking high school level algebra and chemistry and then i will take the nln exam in february and start the other pre-req in january. i will only be taking 2 classes a semester due to working ft and having an 8 month old.

did you already take and pass the nln?

i took the nlns back in march. i had to take hs chem over again this past summer and just started my pre-reqs. i'm in a&p i right now. i'm only taking 1 class this semester and 2 per semester this coming spring and summer. then i start the program in fall of 09. i also work ft and i have an 11 month old at home!

Too funny! We have a lot of similarities! :)

So how brutal was the NLN exam? I purchased the book everyone recommends the review guide and I am working my way through it, the math part is a little slow, math was never my strong suit! So how is A&P I? I hear that can be difficult, I am so excited to get to the point to take the "real" classes that will start me on my way. So you will have completed all of the pre-reqs by Fall of '09? The lady I met with told me by starting now and finishing all of the pre-req's it would take me right up until Spring of 2010 and then start the nursing portion of the program in Fall '10....

Are you from this area? Too bad we weren't in the same classes that would be fun!

Hi There!

I am currently in my 3rd year of nursing at Rivier. I'm in my maternity rotation right now. Let me know if you have any questions! I'm a day student but they're pretty much identical formatting.

If you have all your pre reqs done can you start in as a junior for the BSN???

Hey there, what do you have done as far as prereqs?

The program is set up as follows:

Nursing fundamentals (Fall)

Care of the Adult 1 (Spring)

Mental Health Nursing (Summer)

OB/Pedi Nursing (Fall)

Care of the Adult 2 (Spring)

Capstone/Preceptorship/Community Nursing (Senior year)

Of course you'd have other courses thrown in there but I don't see how you could enter as a junior, a sophomore maybe, if youve taken AP 1 and 2.

I am taking AP2 right now, I should go talk to an advisor there. Are you doing the BSN or ADN program?

Im in the BSN program, if you were to transfer in for ADN youd be in your "1st" year of nursing school but you'd be done in 2 years, BSN would take 3 years.

Ldybugg24-I didn't think the NLNs were too bad. I did read the review guide. The math was slow, the english was pretty standard, I had to brush up on my science stuff (and I love science). A&P I is not too bad so far....luckily I did take the chem right before A&P, cause it's really helping me right now. We're doing the chem part of A&P. I'm going to be done with my pre-reqs by fall of 09 because I already have a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, so I have all of them done except for A&P I & II, Human Growth and Development, and Bioethics (which isn't required before starting nursing). I have one class this semester and I think I'm doing 2 the next 2 semesters. I can't wait to start in the nursing sequence! I don't live near Nashua, I actually have a 45-50 min drive from home 40-45 from work, all depending on traffic. I'm kind of in between Concord and Dover. What classes are you starting with in January??

JW1724- How is the maternity portion so far??? This is one area I'm very interested in. Also, who did you have for A&P?

Hey there. Maternity isn't bad, not my cup of tea but I'm doing 12 hour clinicals at Southern NH Med. Center in Nashua. It's kind of slow-going on weekends so I feel like I'm missing out a bit. We do newborn assessments which is pretty interesting- basically the baby's first head-to-toe. We also do mother assessments, which if there were no complications, isn't too exciting. If there are any deliveries going on, we get put into a lottery to observe... so far I haven't gotten into one but hopefully I will.

I did go to the NICU my first week there which was VERY interesting, but again quiet. However, it was nice to contrast a term infant and a preterm infant and issues, treatments, etc. The lecture portion is not bad, we cover a lot in a short period of time since it is only a 6 week rotation, and then I move into pedi.

I had Dr. Cooke for AP.:up:She's the only instructor for that class and I love her.
