I have been accepted into Riverside's 3 year night and weekend program starting in January 2011. Is there anyone on this site starting there too?

Hi Sowinsis,

What books did you get to preread? You are starting Riverside's full-time RN program in the fall? I got some books to pre-read too and am currently reading one about getting the most out of nursing school.

Hey,

I start nursing school in a week and I highly recommend-

The Everything New Nurse Book

Anatomy and Physiology for Dummies

Medical Terminology for Dummies

Idiots Microbiology

Pathophysiology Made Incredibly Easy

I got them all on Barnes and Noble. I have been able to memorize all the bones and a bunch of muscles, which will help me because my background is in electronics.

I also highly recommend UNCBerkley on YouTube. They posted a whole semesters worth of Integrated Biology aka A&P online. I have watched Lectures 1 through 12 and they Helped out big time! Here is the title for the first one, the lecture starts about midway through on the first video. I can't post links

Integrative Biology 131 - Lecture 01: Organization of Body

Thanks KrisSmith1984! I've still got my books from A&P and Microbiology but need to review before starting hopefully in the fall. I'll check into the Everything New Nurse book though!

No problem! The Everything New Nurse Book is really great. I also found it funny because it had a section about women who become nurses to marry doctors. LOL! :rotfl:

That does sound like an entertaining read :-)

I have a question about the chemistry. Will Riverside accept the Health Science Chemistry w/lab equivalent to College chem? I just discovered if you haven't any chemistry background then you have to a take a basice chemistry class as a prereq for college chem.

Any info would be much appreciated.

thanks,

Stephanie,LPN :nurse:

They accepted my high school chem which is way old, so I think that they'll accept any chemistry.

Thank you twins4paiges!

How about the College Math? I placed in developnmental MTH2 at TCC will they accept this as a college math? do I'm tryint to start next July so I need to make sure I have all classes covered.

Thanks in advanced!

Stephanie

I think that you have to have a 100 level math class. I had 6 CLEP credits and actually had to have them tranferred to TNCC to get a number level put on them. I thought that (moderator edit of name) was so helpful when I was trying to get my prereq's together. Have you talked to her at all? She facilitated the TEAS test, interviewed me and did my acceptance call.

I've talked with her On Monday. But I've placed another call and await a call back. (moderator edit of name) is sweet. which classes didi you clep out of? Math isn't my strong area but I'm doing well so far in MTH. I need to ask her about MTH 103 at TCC. I hope they accept that one and I can just do that either over the summer or in the Fall. Are you in the class now? How is it going? Are you an LPN? sorry so many questions just excited.

Thanks for your help.;)

Just a reminder ... per the website Terms of Service, please do not post staff/faculty names. I've edited the previous two posts. Thanks.

Sorry LunahRN, I forgot. I will be more careful in the future! She is listed on their site, so I should have just said that.

Stephanie, I was accepted into Riverside's part-time program, but then they shuttered it. I cannot do their full-time program, so I am applying to Rappahannock Community College's ADN program starting in the fall. I have so many prerequisites that at least the first year will be three days a week. And I may not have to take a class in the summer. I was very disappointed for a couple of weeks after getting the news, but I am now in the process of applying to RCC and excited about doing my clinicals on "this side of the water" :-)
