Just submitted my application for fall 2014 at RCC!! Waiting on receipt confirmation!
Thanks for the info. I will probably go ahead and do it through the school as well. I was doing a little reading... you got in from the standby list? What was your point total? I've got 85 pts, so I'm hoping that will do the trick.
LOL, oh man you are a shoe- in! Do not worry! I unfortunately did not do well on the teas so that made my score on the lower end at 75pts. At first I got a noticed saying that I was not in, due to the fact they had no record of me sending in my teas. I emailed them like crazy showing emails that they had sent me verifying I indeed had them sent, plus recites of ATI. Next day I was in.
I really do not know what happened, because I know of a couple with 75pts who were automatically sent to stand-by. Til this day they have not told us how they chose from that stand-by list. If it's by number, or random. Rumor is that they picked alot of people that were already cna, or in the med field. So I don't know if that had anything to do with it.
I heard cohort before us a person got in with 70pts from the stand-by list. That didn't happen with us 75pts was the cut off.
SO I think you are more than OKAY!
The Teas has nothing to do with nursing once you are actually in the program, you will see what I mean! I think if anything the pre reqs were alot harder!
Hi steph143,First, thanks for all the helpful info.
Can you start the immunization and drug screening right after we get the acceptance or do we have to wait till intake day?
Also, are you guys already able to take classes towards your bsn during summer or winter break at cal state Fullerton?
Hey mp86!
I would wait on that right after you do intake day. I'm not sure if they will add or take anything out of what we had to do. As far as immunizations go, if you have had most of them taken care of as a child (Little yellow card) bring that to your provider/ or student health. They will see what you have check it off, and you will just need to do the titers, which they will send you to a lab to do the blood work. From what I remember you need
TB (2 tests)
TDAP
MMR
Varicella
Polio
Flu shot (need one every year in the program)
HEP B (3 shot series)
Now this is the one that gets everyone. IF you have taken all 3, you're golden. I had only taken 1 as a child. So I did my 2nd in Dec. I was okay'd to be in the program because the school knows you can only take your 3rd one after 5-6mo after the second. So I just did my 3rd one yesterday.
CPR
Again this one has to be American Heart Association/BLS
And you will have to renew it if it expires sometime before the program. Don't wait the month it expires, try to get it done earlier if you know it will. I know they are big on this one.
Physical Examinations/ and clearance must be signed by MD/DO,NP,PA (They have them at student health)
Now if you have most of these, than you are okay. Just need to print out the check list from American Data Bank, and take it to your provider/ or if you like to student health and bring you little yellow card, or other proof that you have had any of these vaccinations, etc.
And yes, and no. We just got the info we had the option to do that, but you must have already completed one semester of nursing before even applying. So I can do this option next summer if I'd like. Per the info letter, they do not offer financial aid for this unfortunately, We guesstimated it being around 2-3k for the summer, If we do Fullerton. But that is a cool option!
Oh another thing, If you guys are wondering the dosage cal class is really really good! It is really easy, but they break up how to do dimensional analysis. Because every week you will have dosage, and 2x a semester have a dosage exam you must get 100% So if they offered it in the summer, I would really highly recommend you do it : )
Thanks Steph143,
I think I am fine with all the vaccinations. That's one good thing of the military, they vaccinate you for everything even for rabies. So if somebody bits me during clinical I will be fine. Lol
I have never taken any classes at RCC, so I was wondering if we get priority registration?
Wow, the bsn class seems really expensive. How many can you take? Are they also offering them during the winter session because I looked up what our possible schedule might look like and it looks like that we would have class during the summer?

Hahaha! Trust me you may get bitten! I've gotten scratched so it's all good!
Yes the way you get priority is if you have gotten everything turned it by the deadline to get priority.
Another thing is also you will need to register for N11a which is all lab. You need 27hrs of your own time to pass that and it is a requirement. There is N11b and c which is just more lab hours if you need to practice your skills. These are taken if students need the 12units for full financial aid disbursement. Just another side thing, so you can plan your schedule once you see what the options are : )

Oh yeah another thing, yes your cohort will do Nursing 13 in the summer. So taking the Fullerton class may not be a option til you're in between N21/22. Which gives you plenty of time to save up if you are thinking of doing that down the road.
Another optional class is Pharmacology. They are really recommending us to take that class. Which I am doing this summer, but it is only for those who are already in the program. Some are not taking it, they are taking classes to fulfill the BSN requirements like Stats etc...So more options lol!

Uhoh hearing that ppl with 75 didnt get in makes me nervous! Lol i have 70 since i did very bad on the teas but i do have my cna! Ive had it since 2010 and recently renewed it in order to have those extra 5 points for the program! That rumor could just made my day though! It gives me some hope they will pick me from the stand by or the "random" draw! Lol oh please oh please pick me pick me!! Haha thanks so much for all the helpful info! Its great that some one in the program is giving some advice and pointers to us....especially right now that we are being tortured with the wait lol.
