Anyone applying for RCC's Fall 2015 Nursing program?
Thought I'd start a thread to communicate about applying, TEAS, etc.
Here's a question, IF I'm lucky enough to get that acceptance letter, how hard is the physical? I had to drop out of classes this semester after I got injured at work. I'm mostly ok now but I'm 45, problems come with being 45. Should I be hitting the gym and building mass or are they more concerned with whether I'll drop from a heart attack or diabetes?
Hi I asked my mother as she is an RN about the physical and she told me that the physical assessment is not something that is very hard. Your doctor will test you for things such as your ability to touch you toes, if you stable to function in hospital setting, your health status, your mental health status, vision, hearing, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, reproductive, urological, musculoskeletal, and neurological. My mother said that they are just testing you to make sure that you are healthy enough to function in the clinical setting. She told me literally when she went for her physical 20 plus years ago the doctor literally said can you touch your toes, can you move your eyes from left to right, can you lif at least 50 pounds, and her physical exam was practically done lol. She has a previous leg injury at the time but that didn't keep her from being checked off on her physical. Hope this helps.
@nursedorkface I would say if you're unsure about any part of your application, the best thing to do is to contact the RCC counseling department to make an appointment. They are extremely helpful when it comes to answering questions about the application process and what would be required for the physical. I'm 99% positive that 95 points will get you in! If anything holds you back, it won't be because of that. Heck, we're stressing over 75-80 points! At this point, your point total would be the least of my concern.
How much points are you at @Ms.young if you don't mind me asking
Hi MrsPz I will be going in with 95 points as well I scored an 89 on the TEAS and have A's in all pre-reqs. I was accepted last fall but due to a death in the family I had to decline, hopefully God willing I'll be given a second chance. ðŸ™
I saw the sign posted for the TEAS exam at the SON last week. I just want all of you to know I hope you all get in. For you who did not do as well as you would have liked on the TEAS as long as you passed you still got a shot. I got in as an alternate with only 75. I had all A's in my science, A 3.5 GPA, the disadvantage points, and the 5 points for my LVN, but I only score a 68 on the TEAS. I got in a week before school started :) . Just make sure you do everything they ask you too. I will be helping out on intake day. Stay hopeful no matter what. I have 4 weeks left in nursing 11. Good luck to you all.
