Riverside City College (RCC) School of Nursing (SON) - Spring 2020

Updated:   Published

Hi there!

Welcome to the Forum for Prospective Nursing students starting in Spring of 2020.

The application period (subject to change and directly from RCC website) opens from the First Business day in September- the First Business day in October to apply for Spring.

Also, Please let me know if creating a Facebook group would be more streamlined.

Feel free to share questions, comments, concerns!

Hi all, did anyone happen to get any info on the rolling bags? Are we supposed to get them on our own or through RCC? If we do get them on our own, should we stick to specific colors (black & orange)? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

I think the rolling bags are personal preference, but you could ask a faculty member, or Mr. Purdy to confirm? They weren't on any list of needed items that we received. I have a rolling backpack I'm going to use for now

NikeRN,

From my understanding CSUSB Health assessment will meet for class Fridays 8-1 pm every odd week at RCC (Rm 153 til 10 am, then 253 for lab) or virtually via zoom, if necessary..the even weeks we do not meet, but the lab portion for those weeks are completed as assignments online using the virtual Shadowpath program.

As for NRN 11and 11A...Monday is CSNL in uniform at 11am-2 pm, 11A: 2pm-3:50pm; Tu/Wed(in uniform) 7am -12:48 pm for Clinical(first 8 weeks @RCC Rm 252, 253/then 6:30-12:30 on site); NRN 11-Seminar(Rm 155 @ 2pm-4:40 pm -Tu: Shipway, Wed: Dyogi) Thursday - nothing?

Anyone else?

Congratulations to all of those who've received their acceptances! I'm finishing up my second semester. If I can be of any help, please let me know! This is the beginning of the roller coaster that is nursing school!

A few words of advice:

  • Definitely go get started on your titers and immunizations ASAP.
  • If you need MMR or Varicella, do not get it between getting your 2-step TB tests done. Get the TB done completely, then do your MMR and/or Varicella. It will be rejected from Complio if you don't, and you'll then need the Quantiferon Gold blood test (can be $$ and a speed bump when you are eager to register).
  • Buy your books from the Lippincott rep that visits during bootcamp (if he still attends!) You will get your discount right away rather than waiting for the mail-in rebate from the bookstore.

Again, congratulations, and let me know if you have any questions. I'd be happy to help. ?

Hi, question, do you suggest getting the rolling cart organizer?

The "anyone else" was meant to ask if anyone else found anything different on the course calendar...please add to it if you see something I missed, please!

Hi,

which bundle would you recommend for lippincott, The ebooks or the actual books. Which one do you think is better to use?

The coursepoint plus comes with the ebook, which you can download onto your iPad from the school, your phone, etc. You have the option to pay ~$50 or so for them to print you a "book" (unbound, loose pages). I prefer a hardcover, it's nicer to highlight in and make little notes. I did not go that route, however, because I just didn't have the extra money. And it's been completely fine for me so far! So, no, I don't really think it's necessary to have the actual hardcover book.

Some people get by with regular backpacks, others love their rolling bag! I have a rolling bag and I like being able to throw whatever I need in there and not strain by back. If you don't want to shell out the $$, try out a regular backpack for a couple of weeks before you buy.

Me too.. The email said, I should receive feb 4th

Don't worry. I literally received my uniform like 2 days before class started. And yes I bought on the deadline day. The company seemed to wait until the last minute and next day shipped it. Give them a call to see the status of your order if you want. The fit isn't so great. The pant uniforms are not completely elastic like we had tried on in bootcamp (not sure if they've changed it). It is only elastic in the back for the pants, making it veryyyyy difficult to put on. The tops also have smaller head holes, so that can be difficult too, depending on the size you got and the size of your head.

On the CEP itinerary it said Dove Uniform distribution?? Do you think that will be our RCC uniform? Or the one from CSUSB?

The CEP students have an extra patch on the regular RCC uniform, from Dove Apparel.

The rolling bags are preference. They are actually tool bags from Home Depot or Lowes ~$80 I think for the large. I bought a rolling bag from Ross for like $30, but I have a broken wheel from a year of use already.

CEP PEOPLE:

Can someone please breakdown the schedule for NRN11 and NRN11A? I'm getting dyslexia reading my notes cause I'm hearing two different things. Which days do we wear our uniforms? I haven't gotten mine at all...

For HA at CSUSB are we only meeting Fridays? virtually and in person for the entire semester?

I'm not CEP, but 11A is just lab, which you do on your own time apart from regular class and clinical times. You don't need to be in uniform. You need uniform for CNSL, Simulation, and Clinical days.

Got my uniform this morning!! One less thing to worry about, now I hope it fits !
