Rio Hondo College?

There isn't much new information about this school on these boards, so I am wondering if there are any current students of this school that can share their experiences, class schedule, difficulty, clinical sites, resources, etc...

And has anyone else applied for the Fall 11' class ?

Hi! I also applied for the Fall '11 in Feb. Do you know if they use lottery to select students? I talked to one of the people there, and she said they go by point system.

Rio Hondo as far as I know is NOT a lottery. It is based on grades and your need to work, experience, etc.

What was your gen-ed gpa, and science gpa average if I may ask?

I hope so too!! I'm glad that they don't do lottery, but does that mean there are no waitlists/alternate lists? I always wondered how they choose candidates who have similar backgrounds, like grades and work experience.

I have As & Bs for gen-eds, and I think a 3.6 in the sciences.

I have the same science gpa as you(2 As, 1 B), and one of the ladies at the nursing department said I have a very good shot at getting in, so hopefully everything goes well.

And yea, there are no waitlists so I think you would have to reapply again, but don't quote me on that!

i've applied for the fall 2011 too. the list should be out by the end of this month.

Hi All,

Rio is a great school, I have done all of my pre-reqs there and just found out that I got accepted for the Fall '11 ADN program. They do not have a waitlist, but do have an alternate list. They use a point system based on your science GPA, overall GPA, healthcare related work/volunteer experience, any liscenses or certificates (LVN, EMT, CNA, CPT, etc...), additional languages that are spoken, and other degrees completed (AA, BA/BS, etc...). The top 50 with the highest points are admitted right away and then I think the next 40 or so point holders are put on the alternate list. Hope this helps. Good luck to everyone.

Thanks - I am so glad that I got in, I was so worried because everything is so competitve these days. I just got my letter yesterday, so you should be getting yours soon. If you don't hear anything by Friday (Friday is the deadline to let them know if you have accepted their offer) I would give them a call. Good luck, I am keeping my fingers crossed for you.
