RIC Students: Students Who Applied for Fall 2008

Hi everyone, my name is Chris. I am a student at RIC and I just finished my freshman year at RIC after doing 2 years at CCRI. I was wondering if there are any other nursing students from RIC on here and if anyone else put in an application to get into the program for the Fall 08'. I was told that letters of acceptance or deferment start going out around June 1st and I'm getting nervous waiting, I did pretty well GPA wise but I know its really competitive and this is my first time applying. Anybody else out there waiting?

Hi Chris.

I think I saw you on another thread. I've applied for fall 08 also. I'm applying as a second bachelors. I'm getting pretty nervous to hear also. Good luck to you! Hopefully the letters will go out early in June.

Let me know what you hear!

I'm thinking of applying for the second bachelors program for fall 09(RIC alum - 92) that is if I don't get accepted into CCRI for Jan. 09. Was the process easy? did they accept many previous credits? Did they give you any idea as to how long it will take for you to complete the program? Do they view second bachelor applicants any differently or is everyone on the same playing field? Would love to get your input.:)

RIC will accept a certain number of transfer credits, and of course some sciences have an "expiration date." The nursing committee has a certain number of spaces for students who started their college career at RIC as freshman, for transfers, and for second bachelor's students. The latter two have a difficult time entering the program, regardless of GPA. RIC students who came to the college straight from highschool are given priority.

It's pretty difficult for students like myself who are just trying to get ONE bachelor's degree! :D

**also.... depending on what you have taken for sciences already will determine how long the program will take you.

The nursing portion takes almost 3 years to complete. That is not counting the Anatomy, Physio, Chem 105, Chem 106, Micro...etc..etc...

To apply (even as a second bach candidate) at RIC you will need to have Human devel, anatomy, and both chems finished.

hope that helps.

The only science I don't have done yet is Micro. and even if I don't get in this semester I am doing Micro. in the Fall. I did Anatomy and Physiology at CCRI and the rest of my classes at RIC. I found the transfer from CCRI to RIC pretty painless overall but getting into the nursing program is a whole other story.

It's not too bad. I recommend calling the office and making an appointment to talk about the program. I met with the chair last summer and she wrote up my plan of study and told me exactly what to do. For 2nd bachelors they take your entire 1st degree no matter when you went to school. I graduated 10 years ago and it wasn't a problem. You DO need to have the classes required for the nursing courses. So if you don't have them in your first degree you will need to take them. for example they took my gen psych and my gen bio but I had to take the chems again (i had general, not organic).

2nd bachelors is very competitive. We are all older and more focused. So the GPS's end up being higher. I have a 3.7 and I'm not sure I'm getting in. They only take a certain number each semester. They DO look at your previous GPA to determine acceptance.

hope that helps!
