RIC Students: Students Who Applied for Fall 2008

U.S.A. Rhode Island

Published

Hi everyone, my name is Chris. I am a student at RIC and I just finished my freshman year at RIC after doing 2 years at CCRI. I was wondering if there are any other nursing students from RIC on here and if anyone else put in an application to get into the program for the Fall 08'. I was told that letters of acceptance or deferment start going out around June 1st and I'm getting nervous waiting, I did pretty well GPA wise but I know its really competitive and this is my first time applying. Anybody else out there waiting?

pondmom3 you have been very helpful! Fortunately, I have taken all sciences except chem and pych classes (need human dev.) One more question - does RIC require the TEAS? Thanks again!

I'm not positive on this but I think at RIC you take the TEAS once you are accepted into the program, at least that's what my friends have told me.

Basically it does not matter who you are, if you have 50 degrees or no degree.......this program is competitive. You could be the pope with a 4.0 GPA and still not be guaranteed. Bottom line.

I just received my letter today from the department and I was accepted for the Fall 2008 semester! I'm really excited and kinda nervous too. I hope y'all got in too, good luck everyone!

I'm sorry, pondmom. I wish you luck for the next time you apply......don't give up!

Yes...keep your head up and dont give up....

I'm so sorry pondmom3 but don't give up and don't get discouraged. I only applied to CCRI for Jan 09, but if that doesn't pan out I am planning on submitting apps to CCRI again, RIC, UMass Dartmouth, maybe Salve and possibly St. Joes. I applied to BCC for fall 08 but was declined with a 3.9 gpa and 85% on TEAS, they had 1200 applicants for 90 spots. Keep chugging along!

Just an FYI: UMass Dartmouth does not accept transfer/2nd bach students into nursing. I checked into this when I was looking for schools. They only take people who have an RN license and are seeking a BSN on top of their associate degree.

I have a family member who is on the admissions board for Salve. They accept approximately 1 or 2 students from other schools into nursing every year....and sometimes they don't accept any. Salve is very strict and many of their own students can't get in to the program there.

If CCRI doesn't work out I would definitely try St Joes or RIC. Just remember with RIC, you need the 2 chem courses before applying.

Hope that helps you....this nursing school thing is crazy!

Pondmom I am so sorry that you didn't get in, I was rooting for everyone on here to get in. I am taking Micro. this Fall as well as the Nursing classes. If you are taking Micro. or Physiology or anything else like that and you want someone to study with or anything like that just give me a holler. I know that the only way I am gonna make it in this program is by forming study groups and camping out in the library (thats the only way I manged to do well in Chem.) Anyways, if anyone on here wants to form a study group for any subject when the semester starts just let me know (I figure that almost any subject from the pre-reqs. needs to be reviewed once you get in the program, especially Physiology and Micro.)

Chris-

If you ever want to study this coming semester let me know. I have already taken Micro and know the ins and outs of it....it's a very tough class....so maybe I could offer you some assistance there. I'll be in Nursing 220 and 222 also, which should be a decent amount of work....and I find that study groups help me too.

If you have an AIM account let me know...my sn is LEC1284.

Congrats again!
