Yeah, Lauren and I are like ultimate nursing nerds so if you have any questions about the program or anything like that then were the people to ask. On a side note Lauren, why is it taking so long to have the NURS 220 grades posted?

I just finished my BSN at RIC.. thank goodness, by the time you get to the senior level classes it seems like you have been in school for eternity. When I got into the program, we didn't find out until the week before classes start--- and honestly, the departments pretty good at leaving you hanging. If this is the first time you have applied for admission, you likely will not get in due to the increasing backup of students interested/seats available. If any of you guys have any questions about the program feel free to ask, and good luck in a pretty rigorous program.

This happened to me, despite my good GPA. I was successful the second time, thank goodness. Congrats on completing the program! If you have any recommendations for clinical professors, I would love to hear them.

Really? That interesting and I will have to keep that in mind. I will say that one of the professors you list for Med. Surg I, I have met her in office and she was very unprofessional and I will never have her as a professor if I can help it. I was actually looking into taking Foote for maternity because I liked her for 220, any thoughts?

Who was unprofessional?? DeNuccio? lol, thats the only one I can picture being abrasive. At the end of the day she is very smart, and a good teacher, and a lot can be learned, she just has some quirks. As for Foote for maternity, I wouldn't recommend it, two reasons 1) she goes to memorial hospital (all others go to women and infants) and most students see very little some not even one delivery all semester. 2)She is very old fashioned, and excludes the male students in some maternal/newborn situations. Although during the semester I was probably wishing I didn't have to do perineum assessments in postpartum, or witness an episiotomy with dystocia... I am so glad I had the opportunity to see everything I did. When you start to progress you'll notice that some of the old school nursing instructors have some issues with male students in practice, you just can't let it nother you... a funny joke to shut people up "So your going to be a male nurse?" "nope, I take care of females too"

I won't say specifically who was the professor but I will say that people have told me she is kinda flighty and sorta flakey, but that single interaction with her she was so incredibly rude that I will never take her class with her. Its funny you say that Foote is really old fashion about her approach to male students. I say this because I had a meeting with her this past semester to talk about the class and I addressed my concerns about my maternity rotation and how as a male student I should go about getting the best experience without causing any patients to be uncomfortable. I got the impression when I talked to her that she would expect me to do everything that everyone else was doing but in certain situations I would need her or a female classmate present as a chaperone (which is fine with me.) So I don't know what to do, I really want to get all that I can out of my maternity rotation because I find it a really interesting aspect of nursing (even if I don't think that will be my specialty) but I don't know who to take for that class, I keep hearing that Ross is the best to take (and I want the best) but when I talked with Foote and my past experience with her I really like her as a teacher but I don't want to be held back from learning everything possible. I definitely have a lot to think about, plus I may not have much of a choice because I am always last to pick my classes (because I have fewer credits then most of my classmates.) I also wanted to ask about Huntly-Newby for peds. I heard she is really good but I notice you didn't mention her so I was just curious.

I hope so. I cant believe how late they are mailing them!
