Retaking exam

Published

Does anyone know how I go about getting another date to retake the nclex exam? I failed and need to re take it. I know you have to register with pearson vue and pay the 200 dollars but do you have to apply with the BON again? I am in new york. I know you have to wait 45 days to retake it but can you schedule a date for the test before then? thanks

You do have to register again with the BON. You cannot sign up again for the NCLEX without your ATT, and you will get that when you pay for the test and register with the BON.

Is it ok if I already paid pearson vue today and registered with them? Now I only have to register with the BON again to get my att right?

Correct! Good Luck with your test the 2nd time - I took it twice also!

thanks so much..I was wondering if I am able to work in a hospital as a new graduate on permit? or is that only if u havent taken the boards at all?

hello-i am sorry you were unsuccessful on your 1st attempt at the nclex. unfortunately, since you didn't pass, your gn permit is no longer valid and the state will not allow you to work as a gn. you are correct its only directly after graduating and until you a) take boards and pass, b) or until your gn permit expires and you haven't tested yet.

hope this information helps. your payment to pearsonvue is good for 1 yr from the date you registered with them. you still need to apply to your bon and then pearsonvue will send you an att form.

best of luck as your prepare to retest. i am in the same boat. :up:

So I didnt have to re register and pay the 200 dollars again if it is good for 1 year? I am so confused. Good luck to u too!!

interesting;

The way I understand it is that once you register with the BON, pay the fee, which is a one time deal but each test is $200. Going for my 3rd time.

1. Once you write the NCLEX exam, the graduate nurse status no longer exists. If you pass, you get the designation RN after your name, if you do not then you can only work in as a non-licensed personnnel. No internship or externship is available to you.

2. ATTs can only be used once, does not matter that they have an expiration date on them. Once you have written the exam with that specific ATT, it has become null and void and cannot be reused.

3. In order to retest, one must resubmit an application to the BON that they used, pay the fees for that; as well as the fees for the exam to Pearson-Vue. It is an expensive thing to go thru so always best to make sure that you are ready before testing.

4. Pearson-Vue will not permit you to select a date until they have received permission from the actual BON to do so.

Best of luck to you.

you have to send a repeat/re-apply examination form to your BRN/BON and pay the corresponding fee,and wait for the confirmation that you are eligible to take the exam.once you are found eligible, you can now register for exam at the pearsonvue.wait for your att to be issued, thats the time you can start scheduling your exam.you can only use it once (registration fee,re-application fee, international testing fee).
