Resurrection University (West Suburban College of Nursing) Spring 2011 applicants

Published

Hi all!

I'm in a process of applying to the Resurrection University (formerly West Suburban College of Nursing) for BSN Spring 2011 program (generic 16 months option). I started this thread to get and give some support along the process. Let's help each other out and maybe get know better before the semester starts! I'm about to start my final (fall) semester at Wilbur Wright College, I already took the TEAS exam, submitted my online application, letters of recommendation and essay. I'm just waiting for my official transcript with summer school grades. I'll be going for the guaranteed admission program. If anyone has questions or just want to share his/hers experiences- please post your comments! GOOD LUCK Y'ALL !! :)

You will need the titer results as well, proving that you are in fact immune. I uploaded proof of immunizations and they said that was what I needed to complete it so I am going to get that done on Friday.

I definitely recommend taking the CLEP info systems exam soon enough so that if you don't pass the first time you'll have enough time left to try again before the January 7th deadline as you have to wait a full month in between attempts. The reason I mention it is because the RESU staff keeps mentioning that the info systems test is harder than most students expect and that they've had students not be able to start classes because of it :( .

Thanks for the well wishes and again I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Hi guys! I have my New Student Registration session on Monday Nov. 15th, how about you?

i have mine on the 17th. in regards to the clep exam, if you study and are well prepared there is no need to be afraid. Just think of it as taking the TEAs test.

I'll be there on the 15th as well. Look forward to meeting you guys! Does anyone know how many people are in our cohort?

My guess would be 10 to 15, the session is only one hour long and people are probably gonna ask questions, I know I will :) Looking forward to meeting you too :) !

I will see you guys Monday too! I'm looking at my schedule right now. For labs I signed up for Foundations Tues at 9:30 and Health Assessment Wed 2:30 what about you guys?

My registration is the 17th. I have the same lab times as you, aminrang. See you there! :)

Imuens did you take the Info systems CLEP? Or HG&D? I'm so freaked out! If anyone who has taken it has advice I would sincerely appreciate it!

hey guys I'm also registering on the 15th. I just wanted to let you know that I was wrong about being able to retake the CLEP exam after 1 month. you have to wait ***6 MONTHS*** between tries. Sorry for giving out incorrect info. I just got back from my info systems CLEP which I passed but it def wasn't easy. I"m going to grab some lunch then I"ll fill you in.

Alrighty here's my CLEP info systems recap from today:

I passed with a 61 (which according to my practice CLEP book is in the B to B+ range). I took the exam at South Suburban Community College in South Holland which I would highly recommend because you call just a few days in advance to schedule a time for your test. It is $25 in cash to South Suburban and $77 by credit or debit card to the College Board and both transactions are done there not ahead of time.

To give you a little idea of my computer knowledge I would definitely consider myself computer literate and have spent several years working in jobs that required working with medical and membership databases. That being said, without a good amount of studying for the exam I don't think I would have passed, I probably would have scored in the high 40s. IN order to prepare I worked through the Research Education Association's Most updated CLEP prep book which I highly recommend. I got through all but the last chapter which dealt with the business, social, and ethical issues. I took one practice test and scored a 60 (which shows that the book is pretty accurate to the actual test).

Here are my main tips/things I noticed (please note that I have to keep suggestions pretty general as they make you sign off on not sharing test info and this is a public forum!):

*I should have focused more on the business management sections as I noticed many questions regarding.

*I was glad to have focused on database management and information systems subject matter.

*I was glad to be familiar with the names of computer languages (and their acronyms).

*I wish I had been more familiar with Pseudocode and programming logic.

*I finished all 100 questions in the 90 minute time limit but did not have time to review any so I don't recommend leaving any blank or assuming you will have time to review.

*I had an easier time with the first half of the questions than the second half.

Hope those tips are helpful, like I said I have to keep them general. I just highly recommend taking the time to work through a NEW CLEP specific info systems study guide as the focus of the test changed within the last year or two. Also take a couple practice tests to gauge your progress. It is not an easy test even if you're very computer literate. I'm happy to answer any questions you have just please, pleeeeeeeease prepare for this one - you don't want it to keep you from starting classes in January. I nearly hyperventilated when I read the form that said you have to wait six months until retaking. I thought I would pass but also thought it would be close.

As I said in my previous post I'll be at the registration next monday the 15th. My name is Jenny and I look forward to meeting everyone who will be there! :)

Jenny you are awesome, thanks so much! :p

OMG thank you so much Jenny, I have not taken the test yet, I am still studying for it, i definitely need to refocus. Are there anyone else registering on the 17th?

Not a problem, I'm happy to offer an insight I have. With all of the more nursing specific requirements completed (A&P, micro, chem, etc), and all the work everyone has put in to get to this point, I don't want anyone to be unable to start classes because of a computer requirement!!
