Anyone heard of policy in having to give 30 days notice of resignition of RN position on med/surg tele....hospital?
Reason I am curious is this..........I had applied for an oncology position for which I felt strongly about, however I was too late as the position had already been filled. So I accepted another position at another facility and I have been there for 4 months and it is horrific. Last week I received a call from that previous oncology position and they wanted me to come for an interview. So I got the job that I really wanted and I am so excited. So I went to give my 2 weeks on my current job and they told me if I didnt given 30 days notice I would be on the do not hire list. My new orientation starts jan 14th.....so that means I would have 2 more days to work at old job. I really wanna do the right thing so I asked them if I could finish my 30 days but take the last 2 days off and use my pto. They said no. I check to see when the next new orientation starts and it is not until end of Feb. I dont wanna pass this great opportunity up and I am trying to do the right thing as to not leave my old job struggling with staffing......especially since another nurse up and quit the other day. What would you do?
You could always give 30 days and then call out for those last 2 shifts. I certainly know people who've done that. I'm a little surprised with you having only been there for 4 months that they're demanding a 30 day notice. Many times people who are relatively new are told there's no reason to work out their notice.
My question to you then would be, is this a bridge you can burn? Is there a possibility you would ever want to return to this hospital? Or is this hospital part of a larger hospital system that you don't want to be blacklisted from?
I would follow up with the new job and see if they could extend the orientation to February. If they couldn't, I would not lose out on a job I really wanted because a current employer is just being an *** about two days. Shows their true colors and it's not a place you would want to be at anyway BTW, I've never given 4 weeks notice, only 2 weeks and have never been told to do it differently.
I work for a traveler agency and I have been working per diem for them since Jan of 2018. I just got offered a permanent part time job and Im not sure how long I should continue working for the agency and what kind of notice should I give to leave on good terms and avoid any negative HR remarks.

Best course of action, unless you're legitimately afraid of backlash from your current job, would be just to ask HR if you can't find the policy within your Employee Handbook.

My clinical manager did say she was going to see if they would make an exception for me so there is a possibility they may let me do 2 weeks without penalty. We shall see. Thanks for all replies! Happy Holidays!
