Required 1000 hours for RN licensure

Published

Hello MD nurses! So I graduated 6 years ago and I have 3+ years of experience but it was done in another country. I emailed the board of nursing to inquire if I would qualify for license by endorsement, with my clinicals done abroad...they didn't answer with a yes or no, just that I had to have graduated within the 5 past 5 yrs or did 1000 hrs within the past 5 years, basically copy-pasted what's on their website. So my question is, is there anyone out there who is past the 5 yr graduation mark, did clinicals abroad and was approved? Or do I have to take a refresher course?

Do you have paid nursing experience? What state are you licensed in? If they are seeking clinical practice it does not mean nursing school experience but paid nursing clinical work experience as a licensed nurse.

What country did you gain your nursing experience?

Are you trying to get your country's nursing license endorsed to the States if so which state are you planning to work in if not MD ?

Or do you already have a US nursing license and wish to endorse to MD or another US state?

Are you referring to "clinicals" as in school requirements or actual paid experiences?

I m an Aussie nurse and worked primarily in ccu...My initial licensing state is NY, but I received an offer in MD,

My initial licensing state is NY and I have paid RN experience. This Filipina tech whre I did my shadowing told me my Aussie work doesnt count as her Philippine experienxe didnt. She was the only other foreign grad in the unit I interviewed in so I have no other resource person...although I know of one person from my country who graduated 10yrs ago, doesnt have US experience and was given an MD activr license

As you are currently licensed in another state I imagine that you should be eligible to apply for licensure by endorsement. However, as only the Maryland Board of Nursing can make this decision you should apply for licensure. If they reject your application you will finally know where you are deficient and what you need to do.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I already have! :) Im just waiting for an official word from the mbon but what this other girl said is messing with my head haha and the wait is agonizing. At this point I dont even know if she's just tryig to discourage me or what...I had a conversation with her again this morning because I wanted to validate the earlier information she gave...I got even more confused lol

I would not take a strangers interpretation of the regulations as accurate
