what should or shouldnt you report to the charge nurse or DON that you see going on as far as aides not respecting the patient.

I guess it depends. If they said something out of the patient's earshot, don't report it. If it was something they said to the resident's face then it kinda depends on their relationship with them. It's hard to say without knowing what happened.

This is a very delicate subject. You don't want to be known for "ratting out" other CNAs, because more than likely the DON won't do anything about it anyways. If there is an aide that has been working at the facility for years, picks up shifts, etc. the DON will be very reluctant to investigate what actually happened.
Sometimes you have to think about what is best for the resident. If you get the reputation of telling on aides, they will do so back to you, which will raise your likelihood of being fired. If you get fired, who is going to provide good care to the resident?

ombudsman -isn't this what the ombudsman is for? I'm also assuming it is confidential.

I thought ombudsmen were just for patient complaints against a facility... not employee complaints about other employees.
